Alternative Clutch Master Cyl?
Discussion
Hey peeps..... well, the Ultima has been on the road for 9days now and after covering about 1,300 miles already, I'm starting to get a feel for the car and what I want to do next. First on the list is the clutch....
After sitting in far too much French traffic, I've started to develop a left leg like Geoff Capes! I'm using the std factory master cyl, with a Porsche GT2 slave on the G96/50 'box (which incidentally then uses a GT2 release fork & turbo clutch). I believe there are some alternative master cyls that can easily be fitted which will significantly reduce the foot pressure needed on the pedal. Can anyone point me in the general direction of such parts?
Thanks! Mark

Plenty of previous discussion on this topic, over the years. After sitting in far too much French traffic, I've started to develop a left leg like Geoff Capes! Here is one thread. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Good luck.
Thanks for the link.... so it sounds like a 5/8 (15.9mm) replacement is the best option. Would this be the correct direct replacement part, or would people recommend an alternative brand / model?

I don't think there is any "best" option. There is a finite amount of fluid that needs to be shifted in order to operate the clutch, so if the only part you change is the master cylinder then it is going to be a compromise between pedal effort and pedal travel.http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/brake-mas...

Hi Mark
I have a servo fitted on mine and it works well.
Has one issue, in traffic when creeping along going up and down on the clutch and not fully releasing it, the servo runs out of travel and the clutch goes back to its heavy self, you have to come of the pedal to get to work again

Hi Dom - I take it this is the one you used in 7/10 configuration, rather than going all the way down to a 5/8: http://www.jjcraceandrally.com/race/brake-master-c...it was jjc race and rally and about £20.

that looks like it.. I was warned about going to 5/8 as sometimes with the clutch pedal on the floor the car creeps as the clutch isn't fully open.
its not a huge difference initially, but with time you realise you can drive it in town/city without killing your leg
OK, thanks!its not a huge difference initially, but with time you realise you can drive it in town/city without killing your leg
