from the description (no picture on their site when i looked) it sounds like it is , or was advertised for sale on PH for at least 2 or 3 years...

The advert says it's still available and there are plenty of pictures if you follow the link in the first post.

It's been for sale for at least a few months.£35k on the website, £33k on ph. Just dropped to £30k on the website. I'm very tempted if I can either sell my car in time or do a swap...

dont know why, but no pictures showing when I look at the link or open the ultima section on their site.
Altghough it has very recently been given a vinyl stripe which does change the look of the car, but pretty sure it the same car thats been for sale for at least a couple of years.

When I asked the dealer some questions a few days ago he said it was sold.... Seems the price drop tempted someone enough to buy it.

Hi, does anyone know this car as it appears that it is still for sale and I'm feeling tempted.

People have suggested that this car has been for sale for some time, is there any reason for this that anyone can think of, or are Ultimas so personal that everyone wants to build their own so a prebuilt one is a difficult prospect to sell on? Or is everyone only interested in the latest LS engined variants?

Can anyone give me any pointers on what to look for on an Ultima when viewing, build quality obviously, but what else?

Thanks

You need to be patient for the pictures to load as I discovered this morning...

I think that they will have loaded by now since he mentioned it in August! Does it mean that I need to wait until April until my question is considered?

Matt - First thing I'd advise is ringing Ultima Sports and having a chat with them about the car. They will almost certainly know the previous owners and the cars history. When yo do go down to look/if you go and look! It is a kit car. Looking at your profile you are no stranger to kit cars so the normal rules apply. Condition, condition & condition. The main must haves are A/C & twin Fuel Tanks. The other 'really wants' are AP Brakes, Ultima Seats, decent dampers and an engine with a known builder/history. There should be a wad of paperwork of what parts have been used etc. Look for accident damage, rust and general assembly quality.

Best of luck.

Bump!

Was looking to see if this car had come up before and, lo and behold...

Right, as before: this has a PH sticker on the wing so someone must know something about its past.

Has anyone been to see it or have proper knowledge of why it hasn't sold? Looks ok in the ad but that doesn't mean much.

I'm tempted to go and have a look but it's a long way away and I know next to nothing about Ultimas so, anyone...?

I'd suggest that this car is on sale or return and as such will have conditions of sale attached between the garage and the current owner i.e. If the owner and prospective buyer talk/meet and this results in a sale, there will probably be a hefty finders fee for the garage's trouble in advertising etc.
The only way to see if this car is up to muster is to go and see it, get them to drive you or drive it yourself for a good ten miles or so, check it for leaks, smoke etc.
The price really is immaterial, go and check the condition and equipment fitted and make up your own mind.

Thanks for that FC,

Agreed and I may do that but figured that it's got to be a good idea to research first using the finest brains PH has to offer(!)

I have a few cars on my shortlist and an Ultima is one of the more "left-field" options. As I don't know much about them and what to look for when buying one, I may discount a few of the others before going to have a look at this.

IMHO, if you ever go get a ride in one... you will never even entertain the alternatives!

That's very subjective, it depends on what you are looking for from a car, before buying the Ultima, for example I was on the threshold of buying a Spyker C8 LM85 before waking up and realising I could buy a small house for that kind of money.
I also considered a Wiesmann MF4.
The thing that appealed most for me about the Ultima was that I could get hands on involved with all aspects of the car, engine, steering, suspension etc.

IMO go and drive as many cars on your list as possible and then drive several Ultimas,
I think you will find no two Ultimas are alike in the way they go and handle, unless of course they are a complete factory build of the same spec.

ETS forgot to add driving to the list of positives for the Ultima, perhaps that says a lot in itself!

I'm a subjective kinda guy, old chap! lick
...all I know is that after trying many others at the time, the Ultima 'fright' drive left me jangling like no other, and I could not stop dreaming about it... so I was totally smitten/ sunk.. with a wallet that had scorch marks!

That looks like the French actor Bourvil who passed away some years ago. Great and funny actor too.
