Fire extinguisher
Discussion
I would like to get one to fit between the front seats, most likely with a bracket mounted onto the rear bulkhead just above the handbrake cables.
I have a 2 litre powder one from another car but it is way too big.
Anyone else done this and any suggestions as to the best model?
It may also be required for the odd track day.
I think it's a good thing to have in the car just in case.
Thanks
Mark

I have two, with a fire fuse (no electric activation), attached directly to chassis in rear compartment, close to fuel pumps.

The tank for my Sap Fire system sets on the floor in front of the shifter. Think of two people in the car, the bottle sets between there inside legs. This bottle is bigger than the hand held you are showing so it should fit there no problem. I will say that if I had a fire that was getting into the cabin I don't think that I would stop, release the hand held and try to point it. With a full system, hit one button let the system do its thing while you do your best disappearing act. Furthermore if its an engine bay fire with a hand held you are going to need to open the hatch to get to it. The second you open the hatch you are going to get a flare up because of all the fresh air you just dumped into the fire. Full systems are not that expensive if you only use them once. If you never use it its like insurance did you really want to have an accident so you get some of your premium money back? Lee
I have a 2kg hand held extinguisher like Mike's in reserve for later in the build. However, I'm also thinking of installing a plumbed system in the engine bay which would discharge at the press of the button. Indeed like Lee says, it's better and quicker pressing a button and bailing out than getting out a hand held one, opening the rear clip and trying to dowse the flames, not forgetting there are petrol tanks on both side of the chassis...
I'd appreciate a bit of help as well here. I did not build my car and though I'm handy, I don't have the detailed foreknowledge of what parts are near/connected to what. So, with regard to the picture of the bottle fastened to the lower firewall, what is immediately on the other side of it? Mine is covered with carpet and just want to check that if I drill a few self-tapping sheet metal screws in there, I won't be hurting or (worse yet) puncturing anything. What are the clearances?

Good point. Do you have a suggestion? What is most/reasonably accessible to through-bolt it, or shall I focus on attaching it to a roll-cage member?

Verde you might consider a better solution than sheet metal screws get hit and have that thing come loose and you have a 2kg anvil flying around the interior. Lee

The lower section of the rear bulkhead has a vertical chassis member in the middle.
If this is carpeted then you should still be able to feel the vertical line of rivets through the carpet.
Drill through on the vertical line and fit rivnuts to secure the mounting bracket.

Beat you to it Steve! If this is carpeted then you should still be able to feel the vertical line of rivets through the carpet.
