Found some topics recommending to buy the sender/gauge from the factory.

But where do you install the sender?

I was thinking why not two senders. One at the bottom of the sump (hot oil temp) and a second at the exit of the oil cooler. That would give you an idea of the returning temp before entry in the engine.

I have a sandwich plate for my remote oil filter takeoff so the sensor is screwed into the side of that.

I can tell you where not to put the sender. Mine is an LS7 and the sender is place low down, right near the oil pump. It has led to some worrisome reading that aren't calibrated with normal small block/LS7 numbers. The best is to plumb it in near the head where there is a tap. On the LS at least. I believe you'll get normal/comparable readings there.
I'm sure others with more direct knowledge will chime in though.

I think the best location is where the oil is hottest , the sump is the coolest part of the oil journey so not the best place , on the Noble it's fitted in the sump but I'm on the process of moving it too the block , it will be interesting to see the difference in oil temps .

I used to have mine in the top of the wing portion of my sump - not good as the oil tends to get trapped and the reading was sluggish to say the least. When I fitted a remote oil filter I tapped a hole for a 1/8 NPT sender in the top.

Bottom line is you want it in the flow, pre oil cooler if you have one.

Mine goes between dry sump pump outlet and oil cooler inlet.

Factory says to install the sender in the dry sump tank.

What parts do you use to install it?

These

are only available up to D08.

I have been putting it after the thermostat with the above pictured -12 adapter, so i can also monitor if the oil thermostat is opening (small amount of oil is passing all the time anyway). reads very accurately and much better than in the galley where it had been 2 years reading 30 degrees less......
