What do people use for steering stops as my car doesn't have any?

The rack should...but to limit movement more you can use jubilee clips on the rack under the boots

I have some nylon discs (like a large washer) with a slit allowing them to be twisted and slipped over the ram. You can add more than one (they are about 3mm thick) to get the required width.

There is also no danger of them damaging the rubber boots.

You should only need them if you are using non standard wheel/tyre combo.

Cheers,

Any tips where to get the washers? I assume you need to take the tie rod ends off to fit them?

Does the jubilie clamp really work and is it strong enough? Maybe wrapped in some thick rubber tape might help protect the boots.

And yes non standard wheels and tires.

The plastic washers/spacers were described as being split so you should be able twist them a fit the split over the shaft without taking the TREs off.

When using Jubilee clips the clip is trapped at the end of the racks motion so the strength of grip is not an issue.

Word of warning if fitting stops to a car that has not yet been through IVA. An IVA inspector was squeezing the gaiter on a car we had on test to feel for jubilee clips (which he would have failed). I had made a sleeve from thick wall tube, slit it in two along its length then tack welded it back together again in situ so he could only feel the tube.

Just following up in case anyone else is looking for a really good solution to this.

I can't take full credit for this as it was your help about plastic washers and my race mechanic Peter have used these to get a car through an MOT that was a bit too lowwhistle

The key is that they are made of semi flexible plastic and are each about 10mm wide so you can just pull back the rack boot, clip one on and check and see how it look then.....

The ones I used were 21.5 mm dia.

Raid HP 300025 Clip-On Bump Stops 21.5 mm Diameter Prevents the Bodywork From Bumping into the Wheels.

I see that they are advertised on Amazon.
