All, I bought a spare set of Ultima Sports OEM OZ wheels. One of the rear wheels on the outer rim has a small ding that I want get fixed. I was referred to a local wheel repair service and called them today. I forwarded photos and after review I was told no problem that the ding can be fixed. I was then asked if the rims are clear coated and I told them I do not know. They told me I could check by using Aluminum wheel polish, rub some on and see if the cloth is black. Rubbing the outer rim showed no sign of black on the cloth; however, the center section did show black on the cloth. I noticed that the center isn't as smooth as the outer rim. Maybe the outer rim is highly polished; therefore, making it difficult to polish or it may actually have I clear coat.

Does anyone know of the outer rim is clear coated or just polished Aluminum?

Thanks,

Jim

I believe the outer is some sort of plastic coating, but the centres are not coated with anything.

and let them make 4 the same.

Ultima wheels are sourced from two points, the rims are OZ and clear anodised I believe, the centres are Ultimas own,
Older wheels I believe were sourced from Image, these look identical to current but have polished rims.
It is unlikely that your rims are polished if there is no residue left on a clean cloth after rubbing gently with polish.

If the outer lip is anodized then I don't know if it can be repaired and match the others. I may be better to replace the outer lip for this one wheel. Thoughts?

I had worse OZ repaired.
If they don't have to heat them, it won't look to bad.
A ring doesn't cost that much, but it costs time/money
