I don't know if the new spring and shock assembly with double adjusting knobs are Intrax. I turned the parts on all side but haven't found any name or id n°s.

A young engineer from a German technical school posted a comment on my FB page https://www.facebook.com/UltimachCanAmBuild?ref=hl that recommended turning them around 180°. It seems this will reduce unsprung weight and Catherham owners have been adopting this solution with no ill effects.

What do you guys think of this way of doing things?

They look like theyre the double adjustable protech damper. call protech to see if you can run them inverted. I would imagine you can, though the benefits are miniscule and it puts the damper rod in the line of fire of road debris etc. On road cars i advise running the normal way up just as you've got them. some people do like others to be able to see they have them the "racey" way around though ... more for vanity reasons than any discernible unsprung weight benefit, they're hardly a heavy damper ..

  • they could be a shocktec though .. they make an almost identical product.

Thanks. I understand the exposure of the piston rod to flying debris. Guess I'll first contact the Factory.

In a 4-500kg car with super light 13" wheels and small disks and calipers there may be a tiny tiny improvement, on a 1000kg car with 18" wheels and big heavy disks you won't notice a thing, imo.

I would be amazed if you found any difference. What you will find, however, is that by having the adjusters at the bottom they are a) harder to get at and b) more likely to get knackered/stuck etc due to general filth ingress.

Would suggest having them at the top.

Hi Daniel,
normally you can't just flip shockers and run them inverted. This must be considered when designing their internals.
I would also be interested in, if the Ultima ones can be run inverted.
Do you have any updated info on that?
cheers
Cornel

I asked the Factory and Richard said they can indeed be used inverted. However the advantages (unsprung weight for example) is negligible.
