Has anyone made/installed a pedal hatch on their Ultima? If so any details available. As I am part of the "old git" community, I'm seriously thinking of getting one worked into my build. I no longer have the agility of being able to squeeze myself under the dash board, in case I need to get to the pedals or elsewhere at the front bulkhead area. Also I don't have a young slave who could do that work either.

How often do you think you need to get down there.
I've not needed to since I built the car in 2004.

When you need something doing just grab a small child off the street.
Anyway isn't that what grandchildren are for.

Yes, good idea, but I don't have any children even less grandchildren...

We put a hatch into an LS7 powered car. We had some of the electrics and alarm modules sat behind it. It also gave better access to the Fly-By-Wire Throttle Pedal unit. Once we had cut out the aperture we used a piece of ali sheet formed to shape and covered with a carbon look wrap. Fixed down with some stainless button heads. All done to match the pod access covers.

I have two access panels, one is above the pedal box and the other which I recently put in out of necessity is above the control valve for the A.C. That said the best answer I have seen to date was on Lawrence Framers car he made the the floor panel behind the pedals removable. with the car on a lift you can easily get to everything. the removable panel starts just aft of the pedal box and goes back to the frame member in front of the seat. I would have thought that chassis stiffness could be reduced if that panel was made removable

I have a pedal hatch. You can also access the aircon hoses and fly-by-wire throttle.

Well worth doing IMO.

You can't be drinking enough yet....

I have a good few years on you and I can tell you that you tend to find that after 50 your body is quick to tell you when it doesn't want to do something you used to find easy when you were younger.
A smart man makes his life as easy as possible as the years go by!!

Tell me I am wrong when you are 60.

Daniel,

Like Paul, I made a hatch above. Perhaps not as fancy and sculpted as his. Just oblong, and you don't see it when clip closed. - very useful it is as well! I made a template and shipped that to AB who made up the ally frame for me. It has a rubber seal for obvious reasons.

In addition I cut out the panel under the pedals, in line with the frame tubes, then made a strong thicker screw-on panel/hatch with thin silicone seal.

Both together work a treat! I just couldn't face having to try to push my svelte-like (That's a laugh!) carcass down into that claustrophobic tunnel in the dark, playing with the pedals if I had to, at my age - and even worse, as you know, I have a centre console, so access is even more contortional!

I would do it again!

We have - exactly the same as Paul's above. It is straightforward to take a mould off the bodywork and make a part - or lay up directly onto the bodywork using a chemical release agent. If you are worried about the bodywork you could always put a layer of tin foil between the two. Bit of trimming later and all done.

Probably the best modification done to the car. It needs sealing properly (we used foam strip and some edge sealing strip) to avoid wet feet in the rain.
