Hi Dom,

I know that I am not going to be much help here, however I attempted to go down a similar route a while back when it seemed that others were (the short stubby type) and bought a couple of sets off flea-bay, but frankly got not very far. What I found was there there seemed to be numerous variations of pin-outs and functions that turned into a bit of a mapping issue for me anyway.

Then, as I mentioned in another post, I saw that AB were doing a kit, and ended up abandoning my attempt and going their route (without the snazzy ali stalks), and it was remarkably easy to fit.

Sorry!

Agree with Keith.... the AB install is simplicity in itself as there are mods that need to be made to the factory loom, but the install instructions are spot on.

Dom, I think you've recognised the real problem: Ford made lots of variations of stalks and therefore, it's tricky to get the right ones and understand the wiring / internal mods you need to make to the set. I'd save yourself the grief and make a call 'ooop 'norf ;-)

ive emailed them,

As a comparisson the new later shape escorts stalks off ebay brand new are £24.99-£50.

reply from AB...

They want for a standard stalks kit £390.00 plus vat plus postage
and £60.00 extra if i want a cover!!

thats about £550 for modified escort indicators.

If you guys feel thats good value, do you think there is a market for me to start making them myself and selling them.idea

Anyone tried the Astra ones?

thanks Dom

For what it's worth, I am in the process of doing this. It took me 2 attempts to get the right stalks (went off the eBay picture as opposed to the description, and ended up with a variable intermittent wiper speed control, which was a bit too tricky to fathom), but at 25 quid for brand new it wasn't the end of the world. I started with Spatz instructions and then applied a multimeter, testing continuity as I operated the switches - everything seems to stack up with the Spatz instructions (thanks Spatz - very helpful) so far, albeit I've got bored with the final fathoming and moved on to fitting into the dash, with the probably misplaced confidence that I should be able to get it all to work...

Go for it Dom and let us know how you get on with it all. Knowing what's involved in getting the right parts, doing the mods, then building the complete sub-loom to work with the Ult main loom and building a cover for it all, I can honestly say that vs my own time and much frustration, yes £500 is a bargain.

And if it's a wiring nightmare, like Mark I prefer leaving it to those in the know...

Out of curiosity, what are those rubber grommets/buttons on the side of the cover?

Hi Daniel - they are the dash2 screen selection buttons - am looking for a clean dash so wanted them easily accessible but invisible.

Now that's a great idea. I'm using the Stack ST8130 display and it also has 4 buttons which need to be placed somewhere. I'm just wondering if placed on the cover access to the buttons will be difficult or not...

Daniel, this is how I did the buttons for my Dash2 install too.. I don't think they were in place when you saw the car. Here's the best pic I've got of the setup. The 4 buttons for the dash are actually mounted under the bottom of the cowl, in easy finger tip reach. Left hand operates the Menu & Up buttons, then on the right it's Select & Down. You can't see the buttons at all, yet they're easy to use smile Also on the right hand side of the cowl you can just see the alarm / immobiliser warning LED & emergency access button.

For me being right handed putting the buttons on the right allowed the easiest operation, also running a center shift so does not interfere with gear change.
