G50 stripdown tools
Discussion
Hi folks, can anyone help me locate a reasonably priced tool or a solution to the following:
I'm just starting to strip down my G50/3 gearbox to replace all the seals and gaskets before mating it to an LS3 motor but I'm struggling to remove a large nut at the very start of the job inside the end casing. The manual I'm using shows a tool that goes on the transmission shaft at the clutch end to stop all the shafts turning (porsche pt no: 000.721.925.30) however the only price I can find is from the states (I'm in the uk) and it's a staggering $750.00!!!
Has anyone found an alternative or is there an easier way to remove the nut other than jamming the gears with something...I can't bring myself to even try that just in case I damage something.
Cheers
Pete

G50 dismantling update....
Thanks Lee, I will be looking into the gear ratios after I have ran the car for a while and got used to the performance of it, but that's definitely tinkering for a later date.
As for getting a specialist to do work on the gearbox like Spatz suggests, I totally agree, however, I was only trying to check out the condition of the internals and change the gaskets in readiness to fit it to an engine which is a really simple job. The big problem is that the tool porsche offers to lock the gearbox up so you can take it apart is in reality a very simple 'L' shaped bracket that has a splined tube to fit over the transmission shaft, it looks no more than £20 worth...porsche's price... $750! So that'll be a "No!" to that option.
So after a lot of scratching around my workshop, I found a splined adaptor for my custom harley chopper (for the belt drive) which happened to fit the transmission shaft on the G50, so I locked it up using that and only risked damaging the harley part which would be around £100 to replace. It then only took 5 minutes using that to remove the locknut on the gearbox and by the end of yesterday I had a fully checked and re-gasketed G50/03 and I didn't even damage the harley part in the process....a very successful weekend after all.
