Possible Rose joint problem?
Discussion
I was reading this article off the main page about some Ultima in Endurance racing...
www.pistonheads.com/ultima/default.asp?i=8979
one of the cars suffered two broken rose joints in the race...
Were these the factory ones?
Does anyone know about it, or had these problems themselves?
As I was considering these for myself... I'm a bit worried about this... since they cost a lot more than the standard suspension mounts...
Cheers,
Peter

I'm not sure I'd use the Belcar Ultimas as particularly representative of the reliability of Ultimas in general. Their chassis are certainly heavily modified and I presume the suspension has not escaped as well. It is unlikely that they are not running some sort of anti-roll bar. They were definitely running slicks and in an endurance race. It would seem daft to me to be running the same bits without checking the engineering and expect them to run faultlessly when compared with their target use as a track day/road car.
Basically when you modify cars to extremes like that; If it breaks you get to keep both bits!
Of course if you had a well built "to factory spec" Ultima that started chewing rose joints in normal use you would have reasonable grounds to expect Ultima to fix the problem and provide replacement parts.

I run full factory rose joint suspension, and have never replaced any, they have had a considerable workout

Thanks for the info guys...
Have you had the chance to compare the handling of the rose joints vs the normal uneven A frames?
i.e. is it able to corner harder... etc...
after watching the 0-100-0 videos... I'm sure that was a good test... ;-)
Cheers,
Peter

THe rose joint suspension is meant to be louder on the roads, but you can't tell due the the 640+ bhp right by your ear...
If you track day, some nylon bush men have found they wear out quickly, this is not a problem for rjs men.

I read somewhere that the Rose joints are also stronger, which would be useful if you are doing 1/4's with slicks.
But, do they have steel bushes instead of nylon?
And does anyone have any build site fotos of them?
(just so I can satify my curiosity, and my wife, since she's on the budget committe!!!)
Cheers,
Peter
