Speedo jumping

I have been out today doing some charity rides and found that my speedo has become very jumpy. It was fine last week, although the final run I did last weekend took it off past the end of the dial

As I understand things, there's a sender, a wire and the dials - any idea which is the most likely to be faulty here?

two most likely culprits:

1) dodgy wiring/connectors resulting in loss of signal to the gauge

or

2)Check the speed sensor pickup/ring for debris stuck to it and other damage

gap might be too big between sensor and pick up ring?

Mine was the gap had opened up due to the bracket being a bit too flexible on the speed sensor, a bit of a tweek and it stopped the Speedo jumping. Be careful not to get the sensor too close or you can knock the head off it, the factory have the info on what the gap should be.

Generally the gap needs to be under half the tooth width on the target wheel.

Typically, about 1mm seems to work in most cases

Thanks for suggestions - I'll have a look at the sender at the weekend. At least it's the easiest end to sort. Cheers Andy
