Steering column UJ binding

Had a bit of a challenge fitting the steering column today. It all went right together, but the universal joints are binding slightly despite being properly lined up. Is it OK to grind them as necessary for clearance? I didn't want to just start removing material in case I was missing something obvious from the assembly perspective. We did try them every which way…

Has anyone else experienced UJ binding?

Yes I had a small bind on the other upper UJ. A quick touch with a file and all is fine now.
