Hi Paul - the pipe at the front with the blue bits is the level indicator - the pipe on the right the breather from the box - further behind that and just in view via the brass fitting the vent pipe - it's not draining back into the box - still unsure as its the first part that i've done on the cheapDoes that catch pot drain back into the transmission from the bottom of the pot?

Ok so have slept on this - do we know how much oil is thrown up into the catch tank ? are we talking a significant amount ? Also the way I've set it up means that i'll be able to see whats actually ending up in there. In previous cars its been a route to vent moisture caused by condensation and usually contained very little oil. Has anyone else adopted a similar set up to my proposed and if so have you issues with the amount if oil expelled into the catch tank. Ive not experienced my car on the road or track yet so just trying to understand the peculiarities of an Ultima.
Thanks ever so Dom - My car is basically AB spec running an LS3. My thoughts were that any froth expelled via the breather would/could have a significant amount if moisture within, this hitting the cold catch tank would then condense and when the car stops the water/moisture would run straight back into the gearbox - this cant be good. Am I wrong or am I missing something ?

i want to clean up the engine bay.. breather tank going on bulk head higher up and this breather out of the way.. that way lots of room for the 180 degree headers or x over pipe exhaust i want to do ...hehehhehe
not sure why i have all these plans as ive been thinking of selling her as there is another ultima i want to buy...
the gears are turning generating heat. This heat causes the air, inside your axle to expand. This expansion can cause an increase in pressure in the differential if it is not vented to atmosphere. If pressure increases and is not vented or cannot equalize with atmospheric pressure, it will pressurize the seals in the axle. If this occurs pressurized oil and air will move past your seals. The pressure could also force the seals to apply more pressure on the sealing surfaces. This would cause premature wear of the seals and the surfaces they mate to. I don't think the "RETURN" is needed, only the "open" & higher catch can. You want to allow pressure to escape and any moisture to evaporate out of the gearbox. I have seen the "on top" of can filter and I like it. If oil is escaping there is another issue like TOO MUCH OIL. A closed system will retain moisture and recycle any water back to the box in extreme heat.
