New Build About to Start...
Discussion
Hey Guys
My kit will finally be getting in by the end of this week!
I have started a build site to document my build: www.ultima-dubai.info ... Please be sure to check it out!
I had to build a garage for the project, so currently the website shows the garage build (Under May)... but eventually it should have more car stuff
Please do provide feedback, and especially let me know if you see me doing something incorrectly in the pictures - I promise to thank you for it later

Hi Huzi
I'm really looking forward to following your build. I have a Kawasaki Green GTR that I bought which had been proffesionaly built. I have learnt a lot about how I would build a car which I would still like to do.
Nice to see your detailed preparation and the space you have created. My words of advice - take your time, plan each stage.
Good to see you've got an air riveter as well.
Also make notes of all the add ons from the forum that you like and pm people for help on them.
I will be making the comfort changes to my car and have done a few already - central locking, xenon lights (get the LED's if your budget will allow), horn on steering wheel using slip ring, LED daytime running lights, additional fuse rail for auxiliary items, twin horns, rear view camera.
I won't list the items still to do as its big. Pm me if you want any suggestions.
All the best and enjoy the journey.
Mi will watch your site with interest.

Great looking workshop, and when you finish the car it can then serve as garage and man cave!
Am I correct and the floor is covered in timber sheets?
If so, you may want to either seal it or cover it to avoid splinters. You will be spending quite a bit of time laying, sitting or kneeling on it!
Enjoy the build.

Thanks for the words of encouragement...
The floor is actually completely covered in carpet - as are the walls. I figured getting the carpet would make it easier to work lying down. Also, carpet should help prevent scratches on the body when it's being stored on the ground/leaning against the wall...

Hi Huzi,
Nice job on the new garage! I'm looking forward to seeing your Ultima take shape there.
You've made a good start on the website, too. I've found it challenging to maintain mine; between working on the car, "real" (paying) work, spending time with the wife, playing golf, etc., I haven't posted an update all spring. I'll post if you do!
Anyway, your kit will arrive sooner than you think. Before long, you'll be knee deep in boxes and wondering exactly what you're meant to do with some particular component. Fun!

hUZI: Good luck with your project. Everybody has their own way of doing things so I will share mine. My first step was having the build C.D. printed into 3, 17 inch by 11 inch ring binders. At the end of each chapter I had several blank lined pages inserted. Plus a section at the end of the third book for service records. This allowed me to document any changes from the standard build and the source of any non standard parts use on the car. Also as I started each day of work on the car I would go to the revel ant chapter on the disc and print out the pictures which pertained to my tasks for the day.
Some day I will built another Ultima and the only thing I would change is I would buy a old used laptop hook it up to a flatscreen in the garage. Better detail.
One issue that I had during my build was the pictures in the C.D. often times where to close to say the rear upper A arm and without more reference it was hard to tell which way was forward in the car and therefore there's two ways to install the A frame. I have a remedy for that which is that the factory should insert a arrow in the picture which by convention would intricate forward or up but so far to my knowledge that hasn't been done. Hey I might be the only builder that had that issue you don't spend your entire adult life flying helicopters because you have an overly active imagination about what could happen. Lee

My tip.
Get a whiteboard on the wall.
Do two columns of jobs...big jobs in the left, small jobs in the right.
There will be days when a job is not going right or you are unsure how you want the job to go.
Stop on that and finish up the day completing a small job. You will go to bed having completed something.
The answer to my stalled jobs normally comes to me whilst taking a shower the following morning.
Also remember most of us have been where you are going and fully understand that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.
