Just had this happen to me today, strange reaction at first, I assume when it deflated (Rear), the front of the car went very light and unstable, back down to 70 mph it felt ok, then as I accelerated past some HGV's the tyre disintegrated. The tyre people, identified the problem,
the valve had worn through were it passes through the rim creating a small leak which I assume became exaggerated at speed! Bolt in valves from here on !!!

No rim damage? and no body work, although when i looked in the mirrors and saw all the blue smoke I thought it had trashed everything ! I've ordered the new rear tyres, should have them by the weekend. I'll bring the wheel and tyre to Brinsop on Thursday.
Glynn : I accelerated sufficiently to circumnavigate the hazard !
