Hi folks saw these on Ebay, thought I'd share the link, they look ideal for Ultima???http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUAIFE-SEQUENTIAL-PORSCHE-GEARBOX-G50-G96-996-997-993-Mosler-Ultima-/151805209531?nav=SEARCH

Obviously you don't have anything to do with ad...

Aren't these quaife's a little weak for decent torque?

What is the torque rating on these - assume the new ones have a guarantee?

No idea sorry mate, one can only presume that if they've been good enough for a LS7 Mosler then they should be more than up to the job? I don't think Quaife normally give torque ratings but they do give HP ratings I think?

Just after some friendly advice is all, I'm looking for a transaxle for My Evolution build at the minute and thought they seemed reasonable money as opposed to a 996 turbo box?

Quaife seem to suggest 450BHP, Parr claim 500bhp 450nm
Re-build after 25 hrs.

Have done a lot of investigation into these with Quaife themselves.
Don't think power/torque will be an issue.
Noise certainly will be unless you are track only and don't care.
Gearing is likely to give a top speed of around 150mph great for track but not for road or fuel consumption. And box is physically unable to take sensible road gearing.
Different clutch required for hydraulic release bearing. Easily available at a cost.
Compatible with geartronics paddle shift which is the only make worth considering (IMHO) but another extra cost
Depending on your track/road bias it may be an idea but make no mistake the constant loud wine from the box will not help the enjoyment of listening to your lovely V8 rumble.

I think you'd be better off with a 996 turbo box unless it's for short tracks only and you're prepared for frequent refreshes.

I also do still think torque is a problem with these, can't see them lasting long, sub 450 is probably ok.

Quaife were supposed to be developing a Porsche dimensioned helical sequential box that took a good whack of torque, they had a prototype on display a year or so ago at the kit car show.

I remember seeing that! it was going to be the same gear set as the one they were developing for the Corvette guys also (I think).

What is available from the US for an LS engine mid mounted.

The Tudor Racing series has quite a few cars of that type so what do they use and could that be adapted for quiet road use?

If you watch some of MacGee Racing YouTube footage you will see how noisy a straight cut box is in an Ultima.

They won't cope with the torque. We examined this at length when were choosing a trans previously. If they did, Mosler wouldn't be spending £25k-£30k on a Hewland NLT in their cars!

Right Chaps, I've now spoken to the Seller, Quaife and Mosler, these Boxes are not the Quaife ZF boxes that I originally thought they were, they are QBE25g and according to Quaife the basic box is rated 650HP? Mosler have said that they were running up to speeds of 185MPH at Daytona and didnt have any trouble with them? Also I asked why they are now running Hewland instead and apparently it's all to do with sponsorship and hey if You can afford Hewland why not!!!

Smells like bullst to me.. buy a bunch of boxes, do testing which will likely involve chassis mods etc then ditch them in favour of more expensive boxes...

Just out of interest, when did you order your Evo from the factory?
Got any pics of the build so far?

Why do quaife not state torque ratings?

So the mosler team replaced 3 x quaifes with a hewland?

If you've got 4k spare take a punt and let us know how you get on.

Sorry chaps it seems like I've done People a unkindness by posting a link to something that I thought might be helpful to someone??? Not My intentions by the way so sorry for that. Anyhow I took delivery of My Lifetimes ambition to build an Ultima around New Year My Chassis arrived I had it powder coated a different colour which the Factory were very helpful with, all tub work is finally done, pedals in steeting, column etc and steering rack has just arrived, also purchased a custom Fuel Tank off Johnny at MacG as theyre moving to a cell inside the car, few pics to follow
