I have an AS supplied SBC engine with the two typical crankcase breathers on top of the rocker covers, but is this enough? It has been suggested that the build up of crankcase pressure can cause oil leaks and in particular with the front oil seal. I have recently replaced this due to a leak and did notice that the seal was not completely flush/square with the timing cover aperture, has this been pushed out due to excessive pressure?

A possible cure is to add a third breather to the fuel pump blanking plate, this could then be T’ed into the pipe leading back to the alloy catch tank. Does anyone have any views on this subject, I would like to know.
Thanks,
Phil.

The gasket 'squidging' out is common. Its balanced on a thin piece of casting. Top tip is NOT to put any sealant on it, otherwise it will tend to slip out more when you pull the manifold down.

Thanks Simon.
When I re-vamped my breather system, the oil leak stopped, but I still feel that my 383 could use some more breathing. Will be interesting to see this mod that you have.

Thanks for the photos. Very clever and very easy to fabricate. I have almost enough parts left over from my build to fabricate one.
Thanks again
Jack
