opinions on this gearbox noise

It's apparant when cruising and gently coming off the throttle for traffic ahead, I can easily hear a medium pitched scrapey whine that dissapears again the moment I put my foot back down. If I don't drive smoothly then I don't hear it as much...

Tend to hear it most in 5th. Doesn't do it clutch pedal down. Other evidence was the previous owner used red oil (I've now got the factory recommended stuff in there) and on draining it, there were some tiny brass coloured pieces.

The scarf suggests brass synchro wear. But it's the noise that I'm more worried about. I reckon it's a bearing, but which one and how accessible is it ?

And if so any idea how much a rebuild might cost ? Er... and box builder recommendations ?

my sport does this becuase of the solid rear mounting.
