0-200-0 Challenge in Hot Rod Magazine

From the May 2005 Hot Rod issue, pg 50:
"On May 14th...Big Red will be taking on all comers in the Z2Z Big Red Challenge, a contest to determine who can accelerate from a standing start to 200 mph and then bring it back down to a complete stop in the shortest distance. ....It will happen...in Ely, Nevada, in conjunction with the '05 Silver State Classic Challenge, on a 2 mile-long course"
Big Red is a '69 Chevy Camaro with a tube chassis and 540 cubic inch big block Chevy engine that makes somewhere between 800-900 hp.
I would think that this is would be a great opportunity for Ultima.

Jeff is your's geared to do 200. Since we have the same gear ratios I was interested in what our top speed would be. People ask me all the time "how fast can your car go" Since it doesn't run, Currently my answer is always "how fast can you push it"

6500=196mph with our gearing. Roger at PH2 has a .69 or .67 5th that would raise it to 214 i think.
I've got too many customer cars and engines to get done right now, (even with my 4 guys working with me) and I'd like to totally go through the car and prep it. Which is kinda tight to get done right and travel 1800 miles to the Wild West in 4 wks. And if I could borrow the 15" 8 piston Brembos from the car in my shop right now...

C'mon, Jeff! Let's go, Jeff. Go, Jeff! Sure! Why not? I would have your car shipped to Reno and drive it out there. Swap the tune and tires (if needed) when you get there. Then, drive it back, just to make a point. Seriously, I would find out the rules before deciding.
Posititives:
Press for your company, then there's that free advertising, and the press coverage for your company.
Negatives: Someone else wins by a fraction and you still get press for your company.
Honestly, it's hard to imagine a car that weighs as much as a stripped Camaro being extremely competitive at 0-to-anything-to-0 on DOT tires and pump-gas, as compared to a car that weighs substantially less. Power-to-weight will take it. An Ultima should be better on the binders. Big Red has a recorded top speed of 222. It ran the Silver State at an average of 197.99. Of course, who knows how long it took to reach that speed. There are some very long straights at the Silver State. Big Red is estimated to have an additional 100 hp since it's last run.

The Z2Z “Big Red” Challenge
Presented by Baer Brake Systems
In conjunction with The Silver State Classic Challenge Inc.
May 14th, 2005 Ely, Nevada
Fallbrook, California: “RJ” Gottlieb and his Big Red Camaro have issued a challenge. Steve Waldman of the Silver State Classic responded with a resounding, “Bring it on” and Baer Brakes Systems of Phoenix Arizona has stepped up to sponsor one of the most unique and challenging Motorsports events ever.
This event is a contest to determine who can accelerate from a standing stop to 200mph within the first mile of the two-mile course and come to a complete stop in the shortest distance at the end of that mile. Each run of the event will be timed and times will be announced, but it will be the car that completes the process and stops in the shortest distance that will determine the winner. The winner of the event will be allowed to hold the Z2Z Perpetual Trophy for one year and will have his or her name engraved on the base of the Trophy. Each year it will be exchanged for a similar, but smaller trophy and the perpetual trophy will be placed back on it’s stand and a new challenge will be issued.
A committee will be formed to over see the event. All decisions of this committee will be final and no protests are allowed. The basic rules are:
1) Each vehicle must pass the safety inspection (roll cage, fire extinguishers, etc.)
2) Each vehicle must use generally available gasoline
3) Each vehicle must resemble a stock vehicle with stock windshield in stock location
4) Each vehicle must have minimum of 2 seats
5) Tires must be contained inside the body work of the vehicle
6) Tires must be DOT rated
7) Each vehicle may have a parachute, but that run will be disqualified if used
8) Each entrant/vehicle must be approved by the committee
9) Entrant fee is $500.00 ($800.00 for both Z2Z & The Silver State Challenge))
The basic rules are subject to change, but changes will be finalized on or before March 1, 2005. The event will run in conjunction with and as an addendum to the Silver State Classic Challenge. We have intense interest from Print, TV and Radio media.

The Z2Z event is Saturday in Ely, as is the 1-mile top speed event (separate events). Then, Sunday is the open road race...all separate entry fees. Let me know if I can help out in any way, Jeff. I will head for Ely on Friday and spend the weekend.

I recieved confirmation today I'm entered in both the Silver State and 0-200-0 Challenge with my GTR. I am building a twin turbo LS1, if I don't get it done I'll make due with my NOS system.
I'll be in Vegas Thursday.
