Well I offered you guys a trip to the ring and no-one answered - time for some marketing - this is what we
will do

www.mithril.co.uk choose "video footage" and then
"Complete - Lap Ring Taxi"
Get a cup of tea while loading and watch.

Then say I want to do that on the 22nd September

I was there last weekend and had a fantastic time (Ring trip report on General Gassing Forum). Just a little spanner in the works is that you won't be able to book the Ring Taxi on the day, typically you have to book 1/2 a year in advance. The only hope is to get a cancellation which sometimes occur if the weather is bad. We were discussing the Ring Taxi on a thread a few weeks ago and someone who'd done a lap in the dry and in the wet said the "wet lap" is the one to go for, they can really slide the M5s about.

Have a good trip anyway.

cheers

PS Now the Belgium police are confiscating cars for speeding the E40 is now one bloody boring road (52 cars confiscated at the F1 weekend with the max speed recorded being 207 kph).

Hello Gareth,

If you are going to the ring on the 22nd of September are you taking your Ultima (assuming that you have one that is) as I am very interested in building one and it would be great to see one in the flesh. I am often at the ring and what better place to look at an Ultima than the ring. I imagine it would make for a very good ring tool. Has anyone an idea of a good lap time in an Ultima with say 500 ish BHP ?

Cheers.

Edd.

Daz, what is all this about the Belgian police confiscating cars? Sounds like l may have had a lucky escape! ls this permanent? it sounds a bit heavy handed so we can expect it to happen here soon then?

PS
The police were out in force yesterday in France on the motorway back to Calais, taking photos and all.

I was warned about the confiscations by someone on a Nurburgring discussion forum. It has totally ruined the trips over to the Ring because I have previously done Calais to the Ring in comfortably under four hours whilst sticking to the local limits between Eupen and Nurburg. Now though, with the above, I don't do more than 40 kmh above the posted limits on empty autoroutes. See below:

IN FRANCE.

Speed excess below 40kph : 90 euros if you pay immediately.

Between 40kph and 50kph : 760 euros, they can keep your license.

Over 50kph : 1500 euros, they will keep your license, they can confiscate your car (and sell it !) and send you a few days to jail (it happens regularly with motorbikes).

Don't use a radar detector : 1500 euros, and they WILL confiscate your car (and the detector...).

The police are really fond of laser guns/goggles here, and when they are over bridges, there is nothing you can do to avoid them... Be cautious as the government recently discovered that this is a way to make easy money so things are starting to change over here...

In Belgium:
Relevent URL

[url]www.fedpol.be/polfed/trafic/code/amendes2.htm

It's in French but in the frame, it says that if your speed excess is between N1 and N2, your fine will be ... euros.

If you can't pay immediately, it will be 75 euros more.

Under the frame, it says that the police can keep your car until you have paid the fine and you will of course pay for that.

Looks like the police have really cottoned on the idea of cracking down on particular routes on particular occasions. They were like crabs around Hethel!

Seems if your going to go anywhere vaguely enthusiasty, save your enthusiasm for the event. Would be a bit of a bitch on a trans-european jount to drive the ring though, the journey's so long it has to be part of the occasion.

Its a trip Thrust, kev, Baby, Steeve and I plan to do early next year, so any trip tip, tricks, place to/not stay...etc would greatfully recieved

Many thanks

mouse.

They WHAT? If I'd known that, the trip back from Zolder would have been a *lot* slower! 207 kph, that's only 130 ish MPH isn't it? What would they have done for 250, I wonder?

Correct. Prior to this news coming to my attention I would have regarded 207 kph as a totally amateur attempt.

207 km/h? Pah I registered 265 km/h this evening on the 5 going south past Darmstadt (autobahn). I felt really guilty as I passed the police at this speed though
