Discussion
Dont you just love them. My gtr has developed a small leak which appears to be coming from somewhere towards the back of the engine- where it joins the gearbox. Its definately engine oil. I will be investigating further next week when i can get it up on ramps, but wondered if anyone had come across something similar. The engine is a a/s with 3.5k miles on.
Any help & guidance gratefully accepted.
Cheers
simon
Did you sort out your oil leak?
Mine seems to have developed a small leak in exactly the same place.
A few drops of oil hanging off the bottom of the adapter plate. It's definitly not the engine side, more like inside the bell housing and running down through the joint.
Possibly the main crankshaft seal?
I think I will have to fit a crankcase breather and see if that helps before pulling out the gearbox.
If that doesn't cure it, is it possible to replace the oil seal without taking the engine out? It looks possible to me.

Depends, what year is your block?
If it pre-86, then yess you can replace the seal as it is a two piece design. Simple drop of the pan, removal of the rear main bearing, and pulling the two halves out.
If it is post-86, then removal of the engine is needed as the seal is a one piece design.
If you have more questions, then PM me.

Thanks for the offer.
Mine's a 1972 block, so it should'nt be too much of a problem then!
