pedal adjustments

When I look down the top of my Holley I can see that at full accelerator travel the throttles still have some movement to go. I'd say they are at 77 degrees rather than the 90 I can get by finger pushing the throttle arm a bit further. So great news - I will get a performance boost. Bad news - I've tried a few pedal positions, but to get the range of cable pull I need, I have to have the accelerator mounted in the hole closest to the drivers seat. This then means I can't heel and toe. Moving the brake pedal out a little further than the accelerator is possible, but I can't comfortably hit it then - the problem is my leg length, at 6ft 3inch I'm a snug fit anyway. So, looking for a way to get more cable pull from the same accelerator movement. Any ideas ?

You could make up a cantilever at the carb end? That would increase the throw using the same length of cable.

Whilst I agree that's a nice piece of kit you may not need it.

Take a close look at whatever arrangement you have for throttle cable attachment on your carb. All you are looking for is to attach the cable closer in towards the spindle i.e. the lever arm needs to be a bit shorter.
You can either make a new arm or modify the one you have. This will probably be easier than having to make up the extra cable the device above will require.

Does look pretty though.

Hi Simon,

tried to do some photos, though it is a bit difficult with the rear canopy on. Hope it is sufficient. The kit is mounted behind (beneath) the distributor. I can´t say though whether another one can be made because it was a one-off thing done locally. But if there is serious interest I could ask whether it´s possible and at what cost.

you are right, it can be probably also done in a different way but we were not happy with the std. throttle cable arrangement anyway (weak bracket and spring,...), and we wanted something adjustable. Works perfect now, also thanks to the new teflon coated throttle cable.

If you look at Peters last pic you can see that his cable fits to the large hole furthest out on the lever arm. Mine fits to the small hole you can see just behind and below the big hole. Also my cable outer is mounted lower so that at WOT it is still pulling down on the lever rather than them being almost a straight line pull.
I could not remember if I had drilled the hole myself. So no mod required.

This always seems to be a compromise... I changed to a low friction cable and altered the damn linkage more than once. But it still always needed adjustment..

The next car i build is going to have a fly-by-wire throttle, I know that's it bit OTT, but i have decieded the next time i will not compromise on anything that i consider was a pain in the butt on the last car..
A Motec M800 can control the stepper motor....

And fly-by-wire can be realy easy on the engine as the ecu uses it in the Traction Control, instead of cutting the ignition it just back's of the throttle......

By cutting the throttle rather then the spark you don't get the pops, bangs and flames so whats the point??
