Ultima Tranny options???
Discussion
You can fit several different transaxles. Most people go for one flavour or other of G50, although the Getrag seems to be gaining in popularity (although it's a lot more expensive).
If you want to go more up market, the Hewland DG300 is a good option, although more appropriate to a race car than a road car. If you have the budget, you can go for one of their sequentials too. I know that Bob Light ran with a Hewland sequential (not sure which model offhand) in his Stealth (which is a development of the Ultima), and it seemed to go very well.
It all depends on budget though. A DG300 will set you back about 8,000GBP new (5000 second hand), a sequential more like 10-12,000GBP, whereas a G50 will only cost 1,500-2,000GBP.
