I’m sure this has been asked many times before, but I’m after a starter motor for a G50 03 to sbc (383) build. The porsche 964 one I have won’t budge it... (and its a fresh 90 CCA battery)

Gearbox side mounting I assume? I have a G50/03 > SBC and had a replacement starter a few years ago - I will see if I can find the details

You have to be careful about pinion size, I think there are a few different ring gears floating about, I see to remember some issues with people ending up with binding and grinding issues due to slightly mismatched pinion > ring

IIRC I shopped around a bit, but the factory ended up being teh cheapest

Hi, yes it’s a G5003, with side mounted starter.

Thinking of going for the pre engaged wosp unit but would be interested to hear what you are running.

It was a few years ago.. 2014...

I had a random ring gear I sourced myself and an original starter from the factory. It never turned over very well and after a while just gave up

Seems it wasn't engaging properly

Ring gear was £104 plus VAT
New starter was £280 plus VAT

2014 prices, direct from the factory and it now spins just fine

I am not near the car at the moment, there is a maker sticker on it IIRC - next time I am under it I will grab the details.....

When I built my car I identified that the starter would not engage far enough as can be seen in some of those photos.
I had a local machinist mill down the starter mounting face so the starter engages further.
