Santapod performance test and tune day today

GTR-GAZ and myself went to santapod today for there test and tune day , limited to 100 cars we hoped there were no queues, and it did not disapoint ,track was in great condition and the queue was about 5 cars long all day :d thanks to Chris at W.A.S.P. for inviting us along best run of the day was run 4 ,4000rpm 2nd gear start saw a time of 11.669 with a top speed of 123.63 .great stuff have to say time was a bit quicker than i thought i would have been very happy with a time in the 12,s, not bad for a british built american v8 .Both of us smoked our clutches but i have to say best fun i have had with my clothes on!!

Yes, great fun!! There were some amazing cars there.
My ears are still ringing.

Much better than the standard public day. Well worth the extra money.

My best time was 12.33 secs.
Couldn't quite keep up with tuxman though. His reaction times are much faster than mine!!

Don't think I'll be doing it anymore this year. Might have to renew the clutch over winter as it is.

nice one GAZ ... your .6 of a sec faster than my effort (could blame conditions!!) reckon I could get better but as you say dont want to break it!

Participated recently in a Corvette quarter mile contest, which was part of a show program during an international dragster championship (bikes). The officially measured times were as follows:

reaction----+ .6809 (horrible, I know...)
60 foot ----- 2.0035
1/8 --------- 7.8779
1/8 speed --- 98.75
1/4 mile ---- 11.921
1/4 speed --- 121.88

I did not want to fry my clutch so started in first gear at approx. 1.500 rpm only. Also, engine has done only around 500 miles since new, so I did not use the whole rev band, only up to 6.000 rpm (power peak on my high-revving Small Block is around 7.000 rpm, revving up to 7.500). I wonder what the time could be if I would
- lower tire pressure (did run it at full road pressure)
- launch in second gear at around 4.000 rpm as recommended here
- use all the revs up to the limiter ?

Would this really make a difference? I am a bit hesitating to try because the car seems to suffer so much at these events... Still 11,9 is not good enough, this can be done by a lot of road cars, for example a tuned Porsche 911 Turbo was clocked at 11.24 and a Maserati MC12 at 11.813, Porsche GT2 at 11.95 and a Bugatti EB110 at 12.23

Difficult decision, either try to improve and risk expensive repairs, or accept the fact that I do not have the fastest accelerating road car over here?? At least I was faster then all the Corvettes, the best one was clocked at 13.43

hi ultimacz , 11.921 is a great time faster than a zonda !!!! when i did my runs i had 2 full tanks of fuel !!! but a run of 11.6 is still a good run for a road car . when engine is run in i would think you could get in the low 11,s !!!

Tell you what i did on Tuesday, took the car to Oulton Park and gave a stripped out 360 Challenge car, on slicks, a run for it's money. My car is really begining to work!!
