Oil Filter Sandwich Plate

Hi guys,

I need to tighten the oil filter sandwich plate due to having a leak from the join with the engine.

Can I remove the filter without loosing too much of the engine oil so I can do this or do I have to drain the engine first?

Also, what size spanner or type of tool did you use to tigthen it up.

If you leave the engine standing for a while, if run, you will not loose much at all. Put some newspaper down to catch any spillage (this is the same process as just a simple filter change anyway). You will need a large adjustable spanner or socket (not sure what the actual size is (1" or more perhaps) and just nip it up a bit.

I just fitted a sandwich plate this weekend, removing the filter resulted in very little oil loss. So you should be good to go.

Rather than just nipping it up I would want to clean and inspect as you may have trapped/cut the O ring or have a lump of dirt in there.

I did exactly what Steve prescribed, removed the whole thing, cleaned it up and no leaks

Now I just need to work out how to use the bloody gearbox!!

Couldn't find 1st or reverse, so poor old Thomas had to help
