I think I've found a way to make the side windows removable in the GTR. Aircraft Spruce sells a plexiglass glue, rubber sealing strips and plexiglass sheet. I'm planning on fixing the rubber sealing strips to the flange on the door first (it slips over the flange). Thereafter will make "C clamps" with hardware and plexiglass to clamp the side windows in place when needed. What is a suitable place to store the windows safely, where does the CanAm allow for top and side window storage.

And on GTr you could fit the slide windows like on the F40i

John,

I'm building a high performance Ultima My location in the USA does not imply that I want or need a/c (regardless of what Lotus or other makers think). I view a/c as a malignant neoplasm (it spreads all over the car, consumes large amounts of energy and often inteferes with the normal function of other parts of the car).

Ideally the factory would have made a rear bulkhead/roof that is removable and sold me two engine covers and two sets of doors. Then I'd have a CanAm/GTR.

Your GTR will get hot in the cabin, the Helicopter vents the factory supplies works when you move but in traffic you need air con

PS I have never had someone blast past me with air con on and it does not suck the power of the engine,
must be the 644BHP I have

fight, fight, fight, fight!

(said in a schoolboy-esque manner)

Seriously though, got a ride in an Ultima once and it didn't have air con... even though it was cool outside (circa 18 degrees C) as soon as the car stopped, the heat just swamps the cabin...

Sound like you don't want a roof! Why did you not go for the Can-am then?

All that extra weight on the lardy GTR (100kgs) means you need an extra 100bhp and 100lft torque than a can-am to match the power to weight

G MAN did you have the air con on down the strip?

Javier Marino has some interesting external vents on his car.

Sounds to me like the underlying problem with heat in an Ultima is due to its lack of external ventilation (or at least that which the fan can pull upon!!). Aircon seems like a brute force solution... Of course living in the frigid north lack of cooling is rarely a problem for me!

Some reflective sheet stuck to the bulkhead in the engine bay won't go amiss either when trying to control the heatwash into the cockpit. I see that Javier has also done this.

Fresh air souced from the front of the car and fed into the passenger compartment via the fan should help. I am a ways off but I still am planning no a/c.

I have no aircon, and vents from the outside into the cabin in my car. The main problems are:

1) When you stop, you get no ventilation at all.
2) It still gets 'kin hot in there, even when you're moving.
3) When it rains, the vents duct the rain into the car, so you get hot and wet, instead of just hot

The other problem is that, when racing, you tend to be working rather hard without a break, so it would get quite hot, even in a well ventilated car. In the Ultima, it's just plain old nasty.

Great fun though

Mr Wright....

If you complete it without air-con

I bet you fit it after
