Ultima Spyder conversion
Discussion
Hi, I'm in Australia.
I have been trying to buy an Ultima GTR for a while now, but they are pretty hard to find down here. I have a quote in my hand to either build a new GTR or to buy a kit from the UK. But, they are both rather expensive.
Today I have been offered a factory Spyder for a reasonable price (110,000 AUD) and expect that I won't find a better deal. My problem is that I really need the car to be more practicle than the
Spyder is. A GTR would be perfect. A CanAm would be OK too.
1. Can I convert the spyder to a CanAm or GTR?
2. Is the Spyder Chassis much different? The Ultimclub web site says 20mm shorter. Shorter where?
3. To do the conversion, would I have to buy a chassis as well as a body kit with windows and hinges from the factory?
4. What other parts would I need?
thanks in advance,
Andy

I know the factory have converted a rolling spyder chassis to accept a can-am body, it involved removing the roll bar and welding the can-am one on, plus a couple of other less major changes.
It's the body that is longer so no real problem there. The body incorporates the dash an all so its a major swap but I recon its possible and worthwhile.
Also worth noting is it will be just as possible to convert to GTR but bear in mind you will need air-con so more work there.
A can-am screen may also be able to be grafted on, it will take some work and the hood will then be a challenge to mate to the roll bar but anythings possible with time and money.
Phone the factory, they may sell you the bits but expect a grilling as some people try to buy just the body to do a copy.
Whichever way you go keep us informed as I know of others that have thought about doing this.
