As I stated in an earlier post, I miss this forum's early days—so much good technical information. So, to wean myself off of F.B. and maybe drag a few F.B. posters over here from now on, if I do a mod or glean some info, I'm going to tease it on F.B. and post it here. The first example will be a picture of my new All carbon tailpiece, which weighs 39 pounds and has a few mods on it

Certainly very interesting to get some weight off the rear clip.

This forum page needs to be reanimated as the info it contains is stellar IMO.
I've been a PH member for some time and was the one who created the FB UOP, but I'm starting to prefer the "old school" atmosphere of PH.

I posted on F.B. that I wanted to convince folks that this site is better for sharing info. The moderator took down the post and sent a very polite note explaining why he had redacted it so much for that effort. I guess we are on our own. I am excited to share the mods my carbon and Motec guys installed on my GTR project. I will start by saying that the mods include all of the additional tubes required to upgrade the chassis from an EVO frame to an R.S. spec. I am posting a picture of the removable subframe under the transaxle. This mod makes removing the transaxle a piece of cake. I have a modified block of wood that sets on my floor jack to support the box and then roll the ting in from the back.

I don't use FB. I find I can't follow the progress of a subject line. May just be an 'old fart' problem.

This thread however needs more pictures.....pretty please.

Steve D, I guess I am an old fart, too, because following a serious conversation on F.B. is like trying to find a virtuous woman in a we house. I have a series of mods to share, but I plan on posting them in a controlled manner. I'm doing this because I want to draw interest back to this site and because I appreciate the user's community input, regardless if it's positive or well-reasoned criticism. This is a picture of the mount for the 996 GT2 transaxle. I plan on modifying it further so that the rear wing supports are on the same axle as the rear clam mounts. This will allow the rear to be opened without disconnecting anything. It will also load the mount point with the bulk of the downforce load instead of the body. More to come

Pictured below is the carbon/carbon clutch installed in the GTR. This clutch is made by RPS in Chatsworth, California. I have one in my 27 Ford Roadster. It 's probably the most excellent feel of any clutch I've driven, and that covers a lot of clutches. This is installed with a hydraulic throw-out bearing between the removable bottom framework, and this throwout bearing maintenance, if needed, will be a can of corn.

The shifter brackets came from CMS. I designed the rear mount for the 996 GT2 transaxle and had a shop mill it out. Then, I softened all the corners and had the two pieces anodized red.

I love it! I've spent many a night thinking about calling Speedkore and seeing how much they'd charge me to make a RS body out of carbon. Might be a ridiculous expenditure but the front and rear shells in carbon would likely be a substantial weight savings. Can't wait to see that on your car!
