Hi. Just thought I,d introduce myself. I bought a CanAm off Pistonheads(Great site) about six weeks ago, and been having a blast in it ever since. Went to Donnington in it on Saturday, but you all seemed to go on Sunday. Doh!
It's has 383 400BHP SBC at the minute, but not for much longer. I,m building a new short motor at the moment. I,m staying with the 383 capacity but using a forged crank, H-beam rods and forged pistons. I,m doing all this because I,m fitting a Procharger centrifugal blower. I,m also going the EFI route, using the Holley Commander MPFI system. This means I will also be changing the fuel pumps. I,m also fitting traction control.
It,s going to be a lot of work but I,ve been building and playing with Chevy engines for years and I just can't stop.
Thats enough rambling for now!

Dave,
Saw your post in the other newbie thread. And your question about injector sizes.
Check out ls1tech.com in the forced induction forum. There is tons of information in there. And there is a fueling and injection forum as well. I am sure you can find what you need.
Depending upon your power targets and duty cycle of the injectors, you should be fine to use 60lb injectors or maybe even 42lb ones. (sorry, US still uses english units....) Check those out and good luck!

looks like a very intresting project, and has good potencial to make monster power with that ProCharger! any idea on what compression and blower your getting? also who's buliding the short block for you? is your current engine AS and are you haveing any work on the heads????? sooo sorry for the million and 1 question.
Thanks Chris.
Thanks Chris.
Hi Chris
Thanks for the interest.
The current engine is AS. The new engine is being built by myself. The compression ratio will be 9:1.
The ProCharger which I have already is a D-1SC which eventually I will be running at about 14PSI. The heads that I'm using are standard Edelbrock Performer RPM with 70cc chambers. I will be fitting a Comp Cams blower cam, roller rockers and matched valve springs. I will also be fitting a chargecooler from Pace Products.
This should easily give me more than 600HP.
Not sure how the gearbox will like this!
Regards Dave

Hi Adam
The ProCharger will sit at the top of the engine on the right if looking from the front of the engine.
It will just fit, although some of the cooling system will need relocating to the other side of the engine bay. It will be close to the exhaust, so I will shield it and wrap the exhaust to keep the heat away. Cold air will be fed to it from the carbon side pods which I have on my car.
I will post some photos soon.

Look forward to it - would consider the same if OK. Problem with chargers on CanAMs/ Spyders has always been clearance.
My motor has 9.5:1 so I'd probably need to lower the comp to avoid detting unless boost is very low.
Interested in the pressure/rev curve - do you have any info?
Adam
what ProCharger you going with??? P1sc or D1sc?? or you going for the F1r(!) hehehe?
i would say 8.5-1 would be fine! you could always run a RPM activated (ie boost activated) water injection system and fit coated pistons just to make sure!
are yuo going to be running an air-air or air-water intercooler????
thanks Chris.
PS. the boost curve should be somthing like the power curve of an NA engine. i.e a nice contant increase from about 2K upwards. you may only have 3psi at say 3krpm but 15pai at 6krpm! its just how the blowers work. good for light weight/big engines cars though, not too much at the bottom end but plenty where you need it, up top!!!!

Hi Adam
After chatting to a mate today about a recent supercharger engine he built I might take the compression down to 8.5:1 or 8:1.
Cheers
Dave
As I've a 383 too, I'd be interested in the pistons and rods you intend to use. May also need recamming with the charger to reduce overlap - I hear they dont like it.
Not been able to find much info re 'standard' components to lower compression on a 383 to 8:1. Old method is to skim the piston crowns but I'd prefer to replace with forged and coated items.
Been working in Scotland this week just got back. Going to the factory tomorrow to collect windscreen, hood, high side screens and wiper kit.
To answer your questions:
The ProCharger is a D-1SC with a 12 rib belt drive.
I am going to fit a chargecooler to the system with two pre-rads, one up front and one in the R/H side pod. The L/H pod will feed cold air to the Procharger. The chargecooler and rads are being made by Pace Products. The chargecooler will will be similar to the 4 cell one on their website but the water jacket will be split into two, with separate feed and return for each. Hopefully giving increased cooling. I'm moving the oil cooler to the rear due to needing space for the cold air feed.
The crank will be an Eagle forged item. The rods are also made by Eagle, these will be 6" H-beam rods. The pistons will be forged alloy and are being made for the job. Decided on 8:1 for the compression.
These are the carbon side pods and cold air feed system fitted to my Can-Am.
Regards Dave
Note.
I will be trial fitting the Procharger to the current engine this Sunday when I take it off the road for the winter. Will post pics to show you.
