Twin superchargers anyone??????
Discussion
Ok, ok, i have found another intresting thread (with pics). this time its Wheel to Wheel@s new engine they are putting into one of their cars. its one of their "boost ready" 402 ls2 engines, but with 2 rotex centrifugal superchagers on there to!!!! looks as though it might fit in the Ultima engine bay aswell!!
they are going to be running a mad 16 injector set up that is set to make over 1000bhp. but i think they could tone it down a little! could be one very nice enigne!
here is the thread! www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3806423#post3806423
thanks Chris.

Chris,
I saw this set-up at their open house they held just before the Woodward Dream Cruise. They had it set up on their engine dyno and it was dynoing at ~850hp. They were figuring the rotrex chargers were using 100-150hp so it was probably pushing near 1,000hp. It was cool to see and they are quiet. You don't know they are there other than the massive power curve they generated. It was hard not to smile while that thing was running on the dyno.

haha. i like both the above! but this is why the W2W project got my atention! they are looking to get over 1000bhp (i think they were running smaller blower before) out of a useable LS2 engine! i think the jag may have been a bit of a show thing! you can get a ATI F1 ProChrager to diliver nearly 1500bhp and thats on its owne, two would be crazy!
anyway, do you guys think the Ls2 with the twin S/c's would fit into the GTR????
i have asked for a rough price for a complete engine so will see what they have to say! could make for a cheap alternative to twin turbos though!
also W2W are looking into a new gearbox for the Rotex that run at 1.4 input speed and then as boost build drop back down to 1.0! they say its will make the mid range even stronger!!
do you have any pics or graphs from the dynos???
thanks Chris.

crafty said:Sure it will... That screw-type supercharger atop another screw-type charger only needs a little GRP to be 'massaged' out of its way, and then it would just affect the aerodynamics a bit... CJ could make it fit a GTR, right CJ?!
I dont think that this one will fit in an Ultima.
(www.ultima-gtr.info/pics/020203tophose.jpg , great site...but sorry for reminding CJ of what must have been a scary moment!) chuntington101 said:With the pulley it looks about 1"-2" longer than a stock LS2, but the LS1/6 was 1" shorter than the Gen I/II blocks which the Ultima was designed for, the LS2/7 are even shorter still, according to Motor Trend. It might even fit in W2W's standard, over-the-head locations (although if you have dual-IC's, maybe lower and custom-located would be better, to avoid extra bends in the pipes).

I dunno if it's a 'cheap' alternative, though: they use toothless 'gears' (similar to what IVT transmissions use) instead of the standard gears that most of their competitors use...so you need $100 of 'friction oil' each 50k miles... They do charge a few hundred less than Vortech's equivalent (or Garrett turbos since you said cheap compared to a TT engine, not other superchargers), but if the average turbo or supercharger lasts a few hundred-thousand miles on the street, it might add up to equal two Vortech's or two Garrett's cost over the entire lifespan. It's definitely *easier* than TT's.

Thats a pretty small drive belt pulling 150hp.

thanks Jeff. i think it would fit. and as for the intercooling, you could just run two PWR barrel chargecooler atop the engine (similar to the location the two twin gtrs knocking about on here!). then just run a FAST manifold the wrong way around and you have quite a simple intake track. i think that W2W could do the complete thing for around $20K. and if they can get any where near the pot put they are aiming for then it could make a very attractive package!!!
will try and get some details asap.
thansk Chris.

Those PWR chargecoolers are pricey. I'm building my own system. One of my concepts isn't much larger than the original air filter:
Eliot.

Sorry, I did not have my camera with me that day. Wish I did though..... I picked up some technical info that is the same that is available on line: www.w2wpowertrain.com/t-techRotrex-2.aspx
I think this combo should work for you. Good luck.

looks good eliot. especially like the "side" mounting design. nice and compact and good for flow! will you be using the same cores for the rads? or are you using bigger rads??
thanks Chris.
Rad will be the biggest thing i can fit without effecting existing cooling. Initial trial will be using varios rads from small cars or large heater matrixes or even air conditioning evaps. That's one of my percieved benefits, that I can try different combinations without great expense or cutting big holes.
Gassing Station | Ultima | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

but after all that effort the air filters are taking in hot air off the back of the rad?
