ULTIMA LIGHTING SYSTEM
Discussion
OK, this may be a dumb question but I am going to ask it anyway. Does the Ultima GTR use HID headlights? If it doesn't come with HID headlights, can I install them afterwards. I think HIDs on normal cars look very sharp, imagine how it would look on an Ultima. It doesn't really matter to me because I am going to get the car in the Spring time whether it has HIDs or not. I live in the US, so it's not like I can stop by the factory on the way home from work. So if anybody can answer this question that would be great!
Don't know what lights they are exactly, but they are the new stile unit's as used by most companies now.
Have driven though most conditions in the car now, Fog Rain etc. lights are one of the best I've ever had on any car BMW's included.
SIEZE, are you talking about the old lights, or the new ones. The old unit's I think where of a Honda Bike, and where not a patch on mine. ??

I think Ultima only ships the Xenon lights with kits now ... are Xenon lights HID? I rather like the futeristic look of Ultra-bright LEDs. I ended up using some for interior lighting

UltimaLover, thats cool. Hard to find Ultima fans in the states. (imho) You starting a build or just dreaming of one? Personally, I am still dreaming, funny thing is my main concearn is Insurance, and actually getting the car registered, Seeing as how california has some of the strickest guidlelines for that stuff... And, well, Insurance would be HEAPS of money for me because I am fairly young.
Hi RSchley, I am thinking of building one. I have been saving my money for quite some time, I guess all of that overtime payed off. In the Spring time I was going to order the chassis along with most of the stages, including the body. Well as for the Ultima catching on in the states, why wouldn't it? It's a beautiful, powerful, light, exotic sports car that can compete and beat the most expensive big boy toys. You gotta love the Ultima!!
No...Ted does not supply HID lamps for the GTR, they are too expensive per unit and require (by law) active pitch compensation device which is attached to the suspension system.
I think the law states that is the suspension is effected by more than 1.3 degrees overall lateral movement (up-n-down) then the use of active headlamp alighnment is required. I can check on the SDS's (system design specifications) at work later if you wish....but that comes from the design i did on the Aston Martin Vanquish program.
You can e-mail me for further info if you wish at ahugget@landrover.com and i will gladly hand over all the relevant legislation and technical specs on a HID headlamp that will definately fit the apature on the GTR, and they are manufactured by Hella in Germany and the UK.
FYI The lamps currently used are called projector lamps, the frequency of light given out is the same as current Tungsten bulbs (they still use the old fashion H1 bulb), The big difference in light emissions of HID (Xenon gas) is the frequency of light is higher and more (blue white) than tungsten, this allows further penetration in poor weather conditions and is approximately 40% brighter in human visible light range than Tungsten bulbs.
I hope this helps
Regards
Andy
