What have I done?
Discussion
I've been sitting quietly on the fence for a little while pondering if I can/should build an Ultima.
Yesterday in a fit of excess enthusiasm I agreed to buy an engine...I've a feeling this could be the first step on a long and slippery slope.
So unless I can find another use for an ASCAR-spec dry sumped LS1 then I'll probably place a chassis order early next year...

Good choice in engines. The LS1 is 100lbs lighter and in any equal tune will put out 30-50 more bhp than the Gen 1 sbc. Due to its superior flowing symetrical ports. And it has EFI as standard. Guy Beddington in Australia reports consistent low 11's in the 1/4 mile with a stock LS1 powered Ultima. I'm shooting for High 9's Low 10's with my LS6 GTR after all it's got to be quicker than my 9 Liter Cadillac.
Freshly rebuilt by Lingenfelter, fully dressed engine including ecu and wiring and all the dry sump bits...for much less than a standard stock crate motor
It's relatively modest in the power stakes - 478bhp at 7200rpm and 438 ft/lb at 5000rpm but should be bulletproof even if it's being thrashed
