Has anyone in this forum rotated their throttle body 180 degrees (so the intake points to the back)
in their Ultima?
I have seen it done on the LS1 but I had a look at my LS2 and it dosnt look quite so simple.
Has anybody left the intake original? If so how did you route the ducting? Is there enough room?
I'm using the G50/52 which moves the engine forward an inch so it my make it even harder.

The intake will rotate on the engine. What seems to be the problem with the ls2 intake?

There is a knock sensor (at least thats what I think it is) on the rear of the valley which appears to be in the way if you rotate the throttle body. I'm told its not there on the LS1.

I just rotated the intake on the LS7. It might be the oil pressure sender. There are a couple of Ultima owners on this board with the intake spun.

On the LS7, the boss for the pressure sender was cut down, honed a little, and tapped for a 3/8" plug. There is a crank case vent from the valley cover that will need to be rerouted. The T/B needed a 1.7" spacer, but we switched to a mechanical (cable) T/B. And, we had to mount the mechanical T/B up-side-down because of the direction of the butterfly opening...mechanical is opposite the electric and that causes turbulence in the new manifold.

Thanks builder.
How can tell whether its oil pressure or Knock sensor? It seems to run through the valley and into the block casting itself if that helps. Do you have any pics to send which may assist?
Why did you elect to go cable for the throttle?

I just had a look on your website builder and can see that you have exactly the same set up as the LS2 with regards to the valley/throttle body config.

Bob,

Jeff had to machine the oil pressure sensor on mine when he spun the blower around..... maybe the same thing.

This is intake routing on an LS6.... I'd switch it if I were you!!

Been emailing ya crafty but I'm having problems with my email.
Thanks for those photos. Rest assured that the throttle body will now be spun without doubt.
I reckon those shots reinforce havn the headers down low also.
Im gonna have a look tomorow but I reckon even machining the oil pressure mount may not be enough.

Sorry, Bob. I have never owned an LSx engine before. So, I don't really know what the details are on the LS2. Glad you found my pictures. Hope those help. Should have some photos soon of the spun intake.

On the throttle body (T/B), I went mechanical for two reasons:

1) The fly-by-wire (FBW) T/B requires an electronic module to be fit to the throttle. That was going to be an extra expense and complexity.
2) The ECU that I am getting (for free, as it worked out) doesn't really care about the actuator, but it does read the throttle position sensor (TPS). And, it is calibrated for the TPS on a mechanical T/B. I may attempt to revert to the FBW, if time allows.

I spun the Throttle Body today with minimum of fuss. I just had to machine the oil pressure sender unit of and plug the hole with a brass grub screw. While I had the valley cover off I polished it ( well the metal polishing shop next door polished it). It came up well.
I now need to work out where i will put my oil pressure sender unit. Everything else was simple.

You could probably fit it into the gallery on the side of the block assuming nothings in the way?
