Does anyone know how much lubricant goes into the AC system? It starting to get warm , and I need to gas it up

The compressor apparently is already loaded with lubricant, but the rest of the system is not. The factory said 20ml, but this is only 0.6 fl oz. My local AC shop said that doesn't sound right - they normally put 6 to 7 fl oz in an AC system.

It really depends on the compressor. Some use PAG and others ester oils. I can cross reference the compressor. Can you supply the make and model?

Thanks Neil.

The unit is supplied from the factory. Its a Seltec compressor and the part number on the box is 500630-7405.

On the Seltec website, it says that the unit comes preloaded with the right amount of oil (and it did, some dripped onto the floor).

But it sounds like because this is a non-standard setup, you have to work out the amount of oil required that gets distributed throught the rest of the system.

I have double-checked the part number. I would use 200ml of PAG 100 or ester oil (SW100 from Castrol). Do not use the product available in the US with “leak stop”

Ester oil would be my preferred option due to its higher misability with R134A.

If the compressor has been sitting on the bench or open to atmosphere. Note that the OEM fill of oil is more hydroscopic that brake fluid! Drain the oil, refill with fresh oil and get the technician to evacuate (vacuum) the system to at least 400 microns. This is not a fifteen minute job.

Hope this helps!
