Aircon Installation. Help required

I am about to connect up the aircon hoses into the aircon head unit. I'm about to install what appears to be a thermostat sort of thing with a copper pigtail probe that appears in the build manual to return back to the copper outlet and then get wrapped in a small tarlike strip.
1. What is this?
2. Where does the copper pigtail go?
3. There is a small chrome metal clip in the packet. What does this do?
4. Do I use thread tape in aircon connections?
5. What does the tarlike strip do?

Wrap the tail round the blower unit inlet pipe and secure with the clip. Then use the bitumen type lagging to insulate it.

You do not need ptfe tape on the connections as each one has an 'o' ring in it. From memory, some of the fittings are turned brass and you fit the 'o' ring to the smaller male diameter so that it sits up against the larger diameter/step. Other fittings have the small diameter and step but have been produced by flaring the pipe.

That's the Expansion valve you’re talking about, it drops the fluid pressure from the line to the "Evaporator" (AC/Heater Matrix), and this drop in pressure lowers the boiling point of the Refrigerant which sucks in heat from the air. The capillary coil that your fixing to the heater side of the pipe regulates the amount of pressure drop relative to the heat of the pipe…

They will be in a small poly bag. About 8 or 10 of them. Different colours and sizes. You cannot proceed without them as the system will leak and you do not want to be trying to fix a leak up under the dash.
