Tire Review - Too Slick For Me

Just thinking about the rubber. IIRC, a full slick requires a rose joint setup. Is that true for DOT (street legal) slicks, too? These Hoosier DOT slicks are the tires I am considering for the track. Looking at the BFG KDW for the street.

Why does the car "need" heim joints to run slicks? The bushings are just as strong from a failure point of view. You might get a bit more deflection, but that's what the stiffer bushings are for.

FYI, I have Hoosier full slicks on mine and do not have the heim joints, although I will be switching here shortly for other reasons.

Bill, what tires are you running and are you using stock wheels and sizes?

I'll be switching to a rose joint set up also after seeing photos of my car on the track. When there is enough room to really use the car there are some giant deflections in the suspension.

Ken, what tires were you using? I guess my question is based on a comparison of street-slicks to full slicks. But, if you are seeine giant deflection with street tires...I guess that answers the question. Do you have a digital version of those pictures?

With the soft red bushings I can see where there would be some deflection. With the delrin bushings I just can't see it.

I run 16" wheels with the slicks. 22x10x16 on 16x10 fronts and 25x13x16 rears on 16x12 rears. The rears require a bit of modification on the parking brake, but nothing major. the wheels are from Kodiak Motorsports.


The 16" are bias ply slicks.

If you ever want a test fitting, I'm in the bay area, and will be coming up to Reno/Fernly at some point.

That would be great! Probably don't need a test-fit yet, but an opportunity to view your setup would be welcomed.
