Dad had a succession of alloy bodied specials, and an Alvis 12/50 with a polished alloy body....curvy cars look soooo good in polished alloy, owning something with an alloy body is on the "to do list"

I understand your sentiment but but do you hanker after an aluminium body out of a nostalgic fancy or because you dislike GRP? I must admit,it has taken me quite some time to get my head around accepting GRP as an alternative material other than metal to make a bodyshell from,but since carrying out some serious modifications on my front clip,it now makes a fair bit of sense.I am not being pedantic,just wondering what appeals and why?

I remember meeting a guy at Le Mans in 2002 I think, who was hand crafting his own ali body for a GTR. Not sure if he was following the same design or going his own route.
It was also his daytime job IIRC so he should know what he was doing!

There is a Brazilian/German company making Cobra replicas that say they can replicate any body you want in aluminum.

i met someone at stoneleigh this year who told me he did the original bodywork for the sport, for shapecraft in...................... wait for it aluminium. He said that he thought others may like a aluminium set of bodywork.

I would like a prepegged carbon fibre body. Factory should offer this as an option. Should save a good amount of weight.

The original body for the sports and GTR were made of alloy. Molds were made from these originals. I've asked if they intended to post photos in the Ultima history thread and this was a goal. That was a long time ago and I'm sure that other more important things have come up.

Carbon body has been fabricated but the weight savings was minimal, not sure about how it was constructed.

On the USA site there is a yellow car with extensive body modifications. Anyone know what became of this car?

Arn't there SVA or other vehicle rules that asy you can do this for the road though?
