Wheel Bearings - I have a loose one...

At my MOT on the weekend, we found that the front right wheel bearing had a bit of play in it, later checking at home confirmed that it was the bearing rather than a worn out suspension bush...

So, has anyone had to replace a wheel bearing?

Or is it a trip to the factory...? Or the local tool shop for a torque wrench that'll hold >330ft/pds

If the bearing is still smooth running then the monster wrench has to be the first route.
If this does not work then the bearings and seals can be bought from any bearing supplier.

I found the bearings at my local Ford dealership. The part number are in the manual supplied by the factory. I can forward a copy of the page if it helps.

I would give the nut on the end of the stub a tweak first!

I'll pull the hub off this weekend and have a look, though I'll have to get another Torque Wrench to reset it, as my heaviest one only goes up to about 170ft/pds...

It might help partly explain why the steering feels a touch twittery at times...

330ft/lb is about as hard as you can pull on a big bar plus/minus a hernia.

Ok, I'm about 85kg/187pnds, so all I need to do is stand on a bar about 20inchs long with a suitable socket on it, and that should be about 330ft/pnds!!!

My BMW 2002 has same setup and torque figures. I was advise to get a big bit of pipe and stand on it to remove! Truck garages can torque up (after standing on the pipe again).

Bearing (no pun intended) in mind that on the left side it will be left hand thread.
