Hi there.... My main aim was to ensure I could change the boxs as I needed. So I have a system made where I can change the boxs in around 15 mins. I use a straight through boxs for the road (119.6db) and two massive truck mufflers for the track, (98.5db) which I need for the tracks which demand 98 or 100 db max.
I feel for the guys trying to reduce a 110db system by adding on extra kit at the end of the pipes which does really work.
Just a thought!

I'm finishing install of an LSx motor into the Ultima. Anyone with a similiar setup have a muffler recomendation? I'm looking for the quietest system I can get with good performance.
Hi,
if possible, could you send me a note when you bought the muffler. I'm in the same camp - I want to have as quite and "controlled" sound as possible without hampering the performance. BMW style sound.

I used Hookers from Summit Racing (PN HOK-21008HKR). Nice sound at idle - not to loud or raspy, but louder and sharper with blips. See www.ultimagtr.ca/july_2006/000971.html for setup.
I ran my motor in the chassis for the first time on Friday and was surprised that the exhaust was as quiet as it is!. I am running a 650bhp 434ci SBC with custom headers and exhaust. The silencers are Custom Chrome 3" in, 3" out almost straight through and the only reason I can come up with is that the primary pipes are all 32" long (give or take half an inch) and I have a cross over pipe just before the silencers. A friend has a db meter so I will be measuring it and if necessary fitting perforated conical inserts to the inlet of the silencers to reduce noise more. I am also trying to get on track so 98db will be the minimum requirement.
HA.... seems like we are all at the same crossroads.
I've spent hours over the last few nights looking at all the muffler options.
After hearing the Factory Five GTM with cats only at the Hot Rod Power Tour I have decided I am going to try that first and see (or hear) what it sounds like. If I am need mufflers behind the cats I'm gonna buy the ones Jeff has then pull them apart and shorten them.

This is the other one I was considering - its only 11" long but it really needs to be offset/offset not centre/offset and they dont seem to come in that config. I have sent an email to Summit to check if they have that config...

The link is the 3 mufflers side by side @ Summit
Jeff's (16" long)
Allan's (14" long)
The Magnaflow (11" long)
You can see that Jeff had to notch his a bit to fit.

Allans fit well, but I have cats so they would be too long.
