bloody hell. My old TVR S2 was less trouble than that !

Really quite shocking. Suppose when things were going obvioulsy tits up he should of given the throttle some & powerwed off inot a clockwise spin - at least he might have missesd the steps then...

Anyone know any more ?

Could the panic braking have hurt the situation. I forget if the F50 has abs. More tire grip could have been given up on braking and used for turning.??? Perhaps throttle lift would have turned the car too. He undoubtly has the clutch pressed in. And I'm not sure if steering further to the right helped even if the surface grip was starting to improve. (which it prolly wasn't but the more you turn the more your going to not "hook up" and exceed the adhesion limits) I dunno, again, I'm not an expert.

I've been in understeer situations like that and the panic reactions (monkey brains reactions) are usually the wrong thing to do. My stints weren't this spectacular. Yeah, bloody French!

Looks like rack and pinion or steering arm broke. The front wheels aren't even pointed in the direction he turned. just an observation..

Don't think the wheel angle confirms the "something broke" hypothesis.

The first sequence from inside the car shows the driver steering to the right (unsuccessfully!!) and then colliding with the official who falls off the drivers side of the car. If you look at the last part showing the car falling over the edge, the official falls off the right of the car with the wheels turning left. That means the second sequence for some reason is left/right reversed!!!!

There are lots of other details that confirm this - car camera position, driver on right side of car, approach angle with the edge etc. Don't ask me why it's been shown reversed though. Unless two cars did this one left hand drive and one right hand drive... just joking.

Wow, that doesn't make any sense. How is the guy falling off the car reversed in the second shot? First he falls off on the left hand side, then they show him fall off on the right hand side. Can anybody explain this?

It looks like it must have been staged. Not only does the guy go off the other side of the car he also falls differently. In the first, in car, shot he goes right up the screen and over the top rail. In the other shot he slides off the side of the wing.

Steve

Don't think it's faked or staged. Look at the officials leg and the position relative to the top rail of the screen. If you slow mo it you see that in the first section his left leg is high above the rail as he falls off. In the second section viewed from the side he is in the mirrored position with this time his right leg in the same "above screen" position. He falls off the car and over the edge at the same time relative to the car as well.

I stick by my interpretation that the second section is mirrored left-right. Look at the position of some of the other spectators and cone positions - apart from a different lens magnifcation and field of view, they are mirrored too. Looking at the signs above the buildings he crashes into. They seem to read CAMPARI back to front in the second sequence. You can't see the banner signs in the cockpit video sequence.

That would be a seriously excessive thing to stage with 2 Ferraris going over the edge.

It's a real video clip, not staged. I remember seeing this on the news several years ago. Some sort of promotion...old guy behind the wheel with no experience driving this type of car.

Hi Guys

Quick observation. Second section of film is with out a doubt mirrored by the production company. Christ knows why???

the vehicle approaches the building at an angle not at 90 degrees to the building. Quite simply in section 1 the building is on the left.... nad in section 2 the vehicle is approaching with the building on the right and what looks like the right hand fron tcorner taking the impact......

and if that wasn't enough, yes the Campari's are back to front.

That aside..... what a tosser for stuffing it.

Laters.

A little late to this post, but the left/right reversal I think is fairly common in video production to keep the direction of motion consistent. Otherwise you can get the effect where it looks like two cars are headed towards eachother when you switch views.

I think in sporting events they must always shoot from the same side of the field, or reverse the image on the back side so that you can keep track of which side is gaining/losing ground when you watch (think how confusing it would be if the guy is running with the ball to the left - you look away at the same time they change cameras - and now he is running to the right when you look back.)
