Help.
My starter motor failed and I need a replacement before weekend (factory open day).
I own T81GJF (1st GTR built by the factory).
The config is 409ci SBC with G50 5 speed box. Starter is fitted on engine side (there is only one spec for this I am told). Removal was made easy by virtue of dry sump system.
The factory are trying to get me one (and a part number)ASAP but If anyone else can help I would be most grateful.
Anyone got a spare for sale or a contact to get a new one.

The pinion (9 tooth) is badly worn accross about 75% of its width therefore will no longer engage with the ring gear (after 7,500 miles use).
Also the casing has cracked on the top mounting flange. This has been machined to clear the original sump but as I now use dry sump this machining would no longer be required.
I have ordered a new pinion from the factory (should arrive tomorrow) and I will try to get the mounting flange ally welded today / tomorrow.
At least this should cover me short term and I should be able to make the open day this weekend.

It looks like the damage has been caused over a period of time.
The starter had started to become noisy then just failed and would just spin freely without engaging.
I have just delivered it to a local engineering firm (who do lots of work for us at work) who are going to build the damaged area up with ally weld.
They will then machine it back down to the correct shape.
As a favour they are going to turn it around and let me have it back tomorrow (result) so assuming the pinion turns up from the factory as promised I should be all systems go.

Don't want to be the kiljoy but the pinion spining was probably in line with an equivalent amount of wear on the ring gear. This wear occures just in front of the compression point.
The new pinion may work at first but will wear even faster than before.
Don't worry though as I'm sure someone will give you a bump start when you want to leave the factory.

Yes I have a copy of the video.
I also have copies of most of the magazine articles that were out at the time.
The car has only done 7,500 miles to date and the engine was rebuilt 500 miles ago.
She now boasts an 409ci (6.7 L) all steel dry sump beastie with very hairy cam and 7,200 rpm rev limiter.
The car will be at the open day on sunday and she is still in good condition.

If you have that video on DVD, how about bringing it along? If you like we can run the DVD on my Cinema system in the Landy so others can see it ...and I can show off!

Good news.
Pinion arrived early yesterday morning (thanks Ultima factory).
Engineering shop turned the repair round in a day (excellent job done).
Had a few mill milled of the starter mounting face so that the pinion engages that bit further onto the ring gear.
Purred into life on the first press of the starter button (also much less noise from the starter).
I am one happy chap.
See you all sunday.
