Oil Leakage Crankshaft G50 01
Discussion
Hi everybody,
I got a big problem with my G50 01 built in in a GTR with LS6 Engine. After driving a few miles (higher speed) I recognized the whole gearbox and back chassis covered with an oilfilm. I demounted the gearbox and overhauled it completely, new set of porsche seal rings included. Mounted again, I drove a few miles again and the same problem occurred.
I got the G 5001 "short end" (not the one with the big rubber ring, but the one with the bar at the top and the triangle gear box mount at the bottom...) filled with 3.5 Litres of 75W90 as recommended by ultima and porsche.
After the seals have been renewed I think I can eliminate this as the source of defect. Now I don´t know what to do. Might it be a problem of temperature, or is 3.5. Litres too much oil for the "short end" G 50 so again temperature ? Might there be a hair crack in the bell housing...?
Has anybody experienced the same problem or an idea where to start troubleshooting ?
I´m very thankful for any help or advice....
Regards
Lutz

I had a similar problem with my original G5003. I could not stop a gearbox oil leak, despite replacing seals. The main seal around the shaft kept leaking and then failing. It was onvious where the leak was when the gearbox was out and tipped on its end, but the reason was that there was a whip or bend in the shaft, probably caused by the original engine being so badly built by someone called Mark Lim of ARracing in the states, that the vibration cracked the box and bent the shaft. Fixed the box but could not fix the shaft which became a bigger and bigger problem. Measure the shaft clearance from side to side and top to bottom to check if there is a shaft alignment problem. If it is then its time for a new box!!!!!!!! If anyone wants to make an offer on a broken G5003 for parts then send me an email

Are you sure it's from the gearbox and not the engine?
It's maybe worth checking the sump pan to rear engine cover as alignment here is pretty important. It could leak from the bottom corners where the pan meets the cover or could leak from the rear crank seal or rear cover gasket. You could check the oil switch at the top/rear of the valley if you use it or the blanking plug if its blanked.
Boosted.
