Just to be clear, yes, I have advertised the car. The impact of parenthood was an unknown quantity when I ordered and built it and the truth is, I feel too guilty going off and enjoying myself leaving Hels and Charlie at home. I spend precious little time with them as it is.
So, I really have no choice but to consider something with more seats (short of mothballing the car for the next 17 years )
I'm sure you can understand how gutting this is for me, especially as I can honestly say the Can-Am is so much better as a road car (and all-rounder in fact) than my GTR was.
That said, I'm in no hurry to sell and Ultima buyers aren't exactly 10 a penny, so I don't expect it to go overnight. The sun is still shining and I will continue to use it until someone comes along who will take care of it better than the purchaser of the GTR did!

I feel fully vindicated! I got married at 20, had two kids (and little money) for the next 15 years and am now in a strong position to reap all benefits as a result. It seems we can't have it all and whilst on the one hand you have my commiserations, on the other you have my congratulations.

Thanks Wayne. I did it the other way round, worked my butt off for years so I could 'afford' a family which I finally got round to having at the ripe old age of 35
Trouble is, the family stuff now precludes having too many toys. Didn't really realise the impact until now

Thanks for that Sean, I didn't say how long a period had elapsed between the end of the 15 year penance and now did I?. Keep 'em guessing that's what I say. Just posted this in reply and saw that Eliot has squeezed in before me: I wouldn't say you are poo at photo shop old son, it's MUCH worse than that!

My kit car went for the same reason - guilt at not spending time with them when they are so little and delightfull. 3 years and 2 further 3 kids later, I needed some escape from the clamouring rabble. So I bought a 2nd-hand Ultima.
It took >150 hours work to debug it, which spanned 18 months because I wouldn't compromise my time with the children. But this wasn't a difficult juggle. I thoroughly enjoyed both. In particular I remember nights with screeching baby where sleep wasn't possible but planning in my head the next Ultima job was.
And now I only drive it say 2 times a week, and the older two children fight over who rides in it. Every now and again I book a track or airfield day or Le Mans or car show and really look forward to it. It can be done.
Don't sell it. You'll only kick yourself in 18 months time when you start getting restless and spend ever-increasing time looking at EVO or PistonHeads classifieds (the Caparo T1 might be 2nd hand by then...). You will regret it I promise you. Keep it. Keep it for escapism, to balance the family duties.

The other thing is, that I have umpteen other hobbies to keep me occupied. So whilst I'll undoubtedly miss it, it's not a question of escapism for me. I'm fortunate in that my wife is as much of a Petrolhead as me - we met racing each other after all! That makes it all the more frustrating as it's not just a question of her being stuck at home playing mum, but she'd like to be out in the car hooning around (driving that is) as much as me!
