Carbon Fibre finish like yours Stig

Ive seen your Canam and like the finish of the panels. Looking through your site and this forum you seem to keep the source for the carbon film secret, or have I missed it in your diary.

Any chance you can divulge the supplier?

No great secret. Sourced it from an eBay seller. No longer registered with eBay though!!

So lets recap.

It came in sheets (what size) with an adhesive layer already applied and a face side that is not the carbon fibre twill but a gloss layer. The material could be turned over ali sheet edges without fraying or cracking. Any idea on thickness of finished material? Could be drilled and cut (with knife or scissors) quite easily.

Am I warm?

I don't think sarcasm's necessary Phil.

The sheets I bought were (IIRC), 1500mm long by 300mm wide. That was just enough to cover a side panel.

The adhesive was already applied and was '3M'

The material can be knapped over the sheet edge, but it's very fiddly. The maximum width I could get was 300mm, so that only leaves about 8mm per edge (and this wasn't consistent) to knap over and stop from springing back. The adhesive is good, but once you've wrapped it, it wants to spring back the whole time whilst you try and get the rivets in.

It's about 1 to 1.5mm thick. This doesn't sound alot, but it was enough to cause me problems with the doors shutting properly and the body sitting properly.

It can be cut by knife or scissors, but they blunt quickly.

If I had a contact with the supplier, you'd be welcome to it. But as I said, they're no longer on eBay so I can't contact them.

If it's any help, Demon Tweeks supply a sheet that looks to be the same (I ordered a small piece of it from there), but I'm not sure if you can get the length/width required to do an entire panel in 1 piece.

They're just up the road from my workshop. Speak to Mick. However, the sheets they sell are the same as Demon Tweeks (they supply DT), so I'm not sure whether they're large enough.

The other stuff they do is covered in a clear plastic, but it's about 3m thick and is supposed to be used for mudflaps!

Stig, my post was not meant to be sarcastic. Just an attempt to pull all the bits of information together so that I could identify an alternative source. I had already done that without the two characters, 3M.

Thanks for the follow up info regarding your experiences with the material although your use on covering the alloy sides in the Ultimas is not my intended use.

Phil, I got some from Crazyskins.com. It looks great but its a bitch to put on correctly. Air was darkest blue when I did it. Not the hardest wearing of materials I foresee...
