That's a Kiwi behind that one, Bruce Turnbull, who's currently working on the Hulme F1, not that I suspect we'll ever see on the road, as they're well behind the Caparo in terms of Marketing now...

Typically he uses either a normal scobby WRX motor or one of the Legacy flat 6's, both of which can be turbo'd up to quite reasonable BHP.

At least you can say it has 'proper race' credentials...

I have re-built one here in OZ for a friend who crashed it. It has a 2ltr STI wrex engine, his original car was made in New Zealand. The replacemeant chassis was supplied from Saker motor sport Holland who build them under licience and manufacture them in China. The overall build quality was ok, the fibreglass work was exceptional and it all went together fairly quick. I am led to believe they are a great handling car.

I thought most of the cars that run at lemans are 2-3L turbo cars, not V8's

Shame they haven't kept the body design up to date.

Take a look here at the Australian gallery, they have attempted to update the body www.sakercars.com.au/main.htm I still don't really like the shape.

I've been interested in the saker sprint (700kgs ) since ~2002. Been wanting to update the body ever since It wouldn't be hard to make the car much better looking while keeping the same basic shape. I put up a picture here awhile ago with a photo edited in paint. Can't justify spending mid-high 5 figures on a car that would be so hard to move if needed and insurance will be pretty awful at my age.

Been interested in the ultima can-am for just as long.

I posted this more as a comment on the WRX engine than the body - I have to agree that the Ultima is prettier than the Saker.... but the Saker is miles in front in the beauty stakes of other WRX engined cars..... like this for example... www.blastautomotive.com

What was he thinking?

It seems to me that so many cars of this type are either built with good engineering nouse or a visually pleasing design with poor dynamics. Just goes to show how difficult it must be to get the right mix. We have the easy part to a degree, if you see something you like you just pay your money.

Absolutely - hats off to anyone that realises their dream of building their own car from scratch.

Remember the saker was designed in the late 80's. The real difference between saker and ultima has been business approach. A more commercial/business minded person would have seen the saker become what the ultima is today. Not critizing turnbull engineering, just that there was and is alot of potential there that hasn't been realized.

This car was one of the fastest cars on the planet for the road already back in 1994 its a porsche...but a very rare one only a few for the road...There were only 50 Dauer Porsche 962 LeMans road cars built
www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/vehicles/road/cars/dauer_porsche_962_lemans.html

and since its already back to 1994 the Ultima looks like him a bit it did back then in 1994 already do a 0 to 60 in 2.6sec with "just" a flat 6 twin turbo...oke it had 730hp and weight in at 1030kg so thats why it was as fast as the fastest Ultima today it had the record car specs?

One major difference between the two is that a top spec Ultima will cost about the price of a terraced house in South Wales in today's money and a Dauer Porsche was the price of a row of terraced houses (possibly more these days) in 1994.

Also, with getting that much poke out of 3L porker motor, I wonder what the rebuild intervals are...

High Output 2.0L Turbo Horiz. Opposed Intake variable cam timing (Subaru WRX STi)
High Output 2.0L Turbo Horiz. Opposed Intake variable cam timing (Subaru WRX STi) - Non-Emissions Race Tune

Gearbox

in particular, the use of the scobi gearbox

could be an alternative, less powerfull engine, with an upgraded subaru gearbox might hold up ?
their are heaps of gear sets available
