Well, the road at least.
After enduring the delayed delivery from Summit (it still worked out £100 cheaper than buying here at least), the new dizzy and filter are now on.
I took care to mark up the position of the body and (needless to say) the rotor, so it once I'd changed the advance springs and bush in the new dizzy and removed the vacuum advance, it was a straight swap. You have to bugger about with the oil pump drive position, but she fired up first time
Once I'd set the timing accurately - thanks to my new digital timing gun
- quick test drive showed that it was business as usual! Actually, the engine seems to be breathing a bit better (I'm pretty sure the old filter wasn't that great even before it got singed) and for the first time EVER, I needed to set the idle screws to INCREASE the idle speed sufficiently! Now the float levels are fine, it idles the rich side of stochiometric, so you can leave it idling happily and not gas yourself!
Driving it again reminded me what a wrench it will be to sell. BUT - the fact that I had to wave goodbye to Hels and Charlie reminded my why I have to
Opted for a polished X-Stream this time for a bit more engine bling
Still can't see anything 'wrong' with the old dizzy? Must be something on the circuit board hidden away in the base. It's back off to MSD for repair/replacement - at least I'll have a spare!!!
