Engine Oil Amount LS6 with Camaro F-Body (?)
Discussion
Hi,
I was trying to figure out the correct and adequate amount of engine oil. To fit the chassis I had to change the original LS6 Corvette Y-Pan to the Camaro F-Pan. Does that change anything ? A German corvette Dealer said something about 4.5 Litres (German Litres!) and I heard of that already....But as I searched the Internet, I found a specs List on a vette Forum telling the capac. would be 6.15 Litres.....Does anyone know smth. about ?
Thanks
Lutz

If you don't have enough in you will be in trouble.
If you have to much in you will be in trouble.
The max mark on your dip stick is your guide, just fill it to that mark irespective as to how much it takes to get there.
If you have an Accusump then the oil on the stick should be at the max when the Accusump is full.

Hi René,
you`re right, that`s my car. I`m planning to build a Can-Am featuring the LS7 engine over the coming winter (looking at the temperatures outside it must be already near).
I have the same engine as Lutz (i.e. LS6)
The main reference point is the mark on the oil dip stick, no matter what pan is mounted.

My Camaro (LS1) has a 5.5 Quart (5.2liter) capacity. However many road racing LS1's run 6 Quarts (5.7 liter) to keep from sucking the pan dry during extended high G cornering. So when I change my oil I just use a full 6 Quarts. Never had a problem with it. Should be the same for you. But as everyone stated, check the dipstick carefully the first time you fill it.
Coming back to oil levels: I checked mine today after a short blast before the next thunderstorm and was amazed that after 4.000 miles (since the first oil change after about 500miles) I only had to refill about 0.4 liters. Stange but true, I must admit that I never checked it in between as oil pressure + temp were always fine (no oil cooler btw). So either the LS6 consumes very little oil indeed or my dip stick`s bent...
