Was on a trip with my GTR yesterday until sunset...Turned on the lights for the las half-hour....everything went well. Stopped the car, the engine and switched off the lights for a final pit-stop at the gas station...After taking some fuel, I tried to turn on the lights again....

When I turn on the lights now, there´s no more interiour lights (the instruments and switches illumination..) and the rear left lights don´t work either, while the front lights and rear right (pass side) work... ?!?

Has anyone an idea, what could be the problem ?

My first thought is fuse 7 blown. LH front, LH rear, Instrument lights.

If both rears are lit then there may also be an earth fault causing the RH rear to earth itself through the LH light.

Well... this wont be the answer to your problem I dont think, but reminds me that the ultima light switch can die very easily. I am on my 3rd so far. With mine, switched on the side lights, headlights went on, switched on the headlights (second position) all lights went off!

Replaced switch (about £5) all fine...... worth having a spare I would suggest!!

There should only be 3 side light bulbs and about 5 instrument lights so 3 should be fine.
I would guess you still have an earth fault in the rear lights.

Got 7 Instruments, 4 switches....connected...
But I´ll check earth also, Thanks again for that hint

Well if you throw all that lot at it I'm surprised you even bothered to ask us what the problem could be.
I was just counting of the circuit diagram.

I bothered you, because all Instruments are original Ultimasports ones and have been connected to the designated and hence originally existent plugs and wires. It´s 7 instr. because I have the additional oil temp gauge. The switches are also the "usual" ones....resumed I just have the add oil temp gauge....nothing I could think of to be wrong...but sorry to bother you

Was joshing with you. Perhaps I should learn to use those smiley things.

Also realised I was counting off my cct. diag which has fewer bit cos I have the Stack dash. Nothing significant will fry with 5amp fuse anyway.

hey steve...you should be right again...drove again today, short trip 35 miles or so, and coming home trying to turn on the lights, again the same problem....even the 5amp fuse has been killed...I won´t increase the amps..so should look where it comes from...Doe you have an idea what it could be ?

In your first post you said both front lights were on after the blow. They are on different circuits so something must be crossing over between them. My guess would be somewhere in the earth wiring of the front clip or even the connectors themselves. On my loom the left side lights are red/black wires which pass through the front clip connector that carries all 8 of the earth wires from the front clip. Prime suspect I would think.

Good hunting. Not an easy game I'm afraid.

hey steve..Considering clives beautiful wiring diagramm there seems to be a cross-over from fuse to fuse, from fuse no 1 to fuse no 2... !?! You said, the circuits should be seperated, are you sure ?...I´ll again describe the recent situation: Fuse No 2 blows after some time (not immediately!), before everything works well. Afterwards all instrument illus are off, and the driving light drivers side works, while the pass side light and both front lights work normally... I´d think of a wiring like 1 Fuse drivers side lights and 1 Fuse pass side lights, but the instr ill. seems to be enclosed somewhere....

On Clives cct. fuse 1 is at the bottom and fuse 8 at the top.
Fuse 1&2 are supplies that only come on when the ignition is on so are nothing to do with the lights.
Fuse 7&8 are the lighting circuits. The live side of both fuses are supplied from the light switch. The other side of the fuses are separate circuits.
When you say fuse2 blows after some time but I think you are actually refering to fuse 7.

Fuse 7 does lefthand lights and instrument lights
Fuse 8 Does righthand lights and numberplate lights.

Try unplugging the connectors between the main loom and the front clip and see if a 3amp fuse still blows. If it does then the fault is not in the front clip. Try same with rear clip connector.
If it still blows with front and rear connectors disconnected then try disconnecting the two black/red wires in turn from fuse 7.

Good hunting
Steve
